We enjoyed an excellent stay at Westwood House! Nothing was too much! Our room was lovely, the breakfasts delicious and Carl and Jocelyn were delightful! We had no idea of the wonderful sights, walks and history that are part of Dorchester! We highly recommend Westwood House for your stay there!

Very good communication before the trip, with a warm, friendly welcome on arrival. They were able to store our bags for us when we arrived early, and on the day of departure.
The decor of the hotel and bedroom was very opulent, smart and tasteful, with lots of lovely touches in the room, including gorgeous toiletries and a fridge with a mini carton of milk, which was very welcome instead of UHT milk!
There was also a minibar with a range of goodies, some of which were included in the room rate.
The bar and lounge area were lovely, inviting spaces to sit and relax with a cup of tea or glass of wine; perfect after a day of sightseeing.
The location is ideal for the many local museums that Dorchester offers, and, even though we were next to the road, traffic noise wasn't really an issue (although they provide ear plugs in the room if needed).
All in all, a perfect place for a minibreak (especially with its literary links).

A delicious breakfast - the owner went to a great deal of trouble to get it right, The hotel is quirky and interesting with a lovely conservatory and guest lounge.

We chose the area because of its associations with Thomas Hardy; the cottage where he was born, the church where he was baptised, sang in the choir and where his heart is buried (possibly inside a cat.)
Dining in both pubs in the amazingly stretched out village, The Thimble and The Piddle Inn, also the Royal Oak in Cerne Abbas.
You need a car to get around as there's no bus, apparently.
Dorchester is the nearest town and the Cerne Abbas Giant is only about 3 miles away. Jurassic Coast and dinosaus along with Durdle Door attract crowds.

I loved it.
I loved it. Great hospitality, beautiful location, spotlessly clean, a lovely couple running it. Can't fault it and wouldn't dream of trying.
I needed a quiet bolthole and a base for excursions into the gorgeous countryside. I came in May which was a perfect time to see Dorset in all its green glory, and this country house retreat fit my needs perfectly. You can use it a a B&B but in truth it's more like a small, well-run hotel.
Good food, a great welcome, kind people who are serious about the quality of what they offer. Excellent.
