Mercure Haydock Hotel, hotel in Newton-le-Willows

This 4-star luxury hotel and spa is set in a Georgian mansion style building surrounded by attractive landscaped gardens. Liverpool and Manchester are both 30 minutes’ drive away.

We had to change to a different room because the TV wasn't working. We then got moved to a different room and the lights didn't work properly... the lights only displaced the full room not the bedside lamps. There was no literature in terms of ordering food, I had to order it off mum mobile phone. No phone in room.

Holiday Inn Express Leigh - Sports Village, an IHG Hotel, hotel in Newton-le-Willows

The Holiday Inn Express Leigh is situated adjacent to the state-of-the-art Leigh Sports Village. Located just off the A580 that links Manchester and Liverpool and 4 miles from the M6 motorway.

For me, this hotel excels in the seven areas I need: 1. It's clean 2. It's safe 3. Comfortable beds 4. Great showers 5. Reasonable prices 5. Plenty of parking 7. Great location (easy to find and exit, big supermarket within a few minutes of walking, hot meals at the nearby pub again within 5-10 mins walk, and large shops nearby in the Sports Village for when you realise you've forgotten something). I don't need staff to be running around after me, they just need to check me in and out efficiently and ensure I have a clean room, and the Holiday Inn Express team here are great at this. (Special thanks to Wendy [I think?] and Thea from Reception, and especially to Steven from the housekeeping team!) They're a small team who seem to be working hard and doing a pretty intensive job on their feet for hours at a time looking after hundreds of guests but everyone I met was pleasant and quick to answer any questions. The air-con is loud to start but it's effective and after the first half-hour it just became background noise. Same when there was a very cold night - the little panel by the door is easy to use and soon warmed up the room. There's also a little heater in the room in case you get chill. I've stayed at other hotels in the same price range and this one is head and shoulders above them. Will definitely continue to try to stay here whenever I'm in the area. Thank you.

All the staff were very helpful.

All the staff were very helpful. I am partially disabled so the steps to the bedrooms were a little challenging but there were two very good bannisters to help. My room was a little hot but I could open my window to cool. On to the staff most of whom were young women with some very experienced slightly older women, apart from the male bar staff. They were all very professional and with just the right amount of friendliness. It seems Kirki is a distinct community with a sense of itself which made my stay almost feel like being at home. I have stayed in hundreds of hotels, for friendliness this would be hard to beat. Next time I am up this way I will stay there.

As much as my wife and i loved the room and the meal we had in the evening the breakfast in the morning's. It was all about the owners and the staff. Sorry we didn't get to say goodbye personally. But we would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your hard work and efforts but most of all your warmness in making our stay a wonderful one. All the best to you all from the Olivers

Where the hotel is located is awash with restaurants around.

Where the hotel is located is awash with restaurants around. However if you fancied just staying in and dining at the hotel, you won't be disappointed. Food is delicious. It easily matches other restaurants. It's restaurant quality not just bar food!!! Good to book in advance too 👍

To be fair I booked this last minute due to a change in work plans, the hotel was clean, tidy, friendly and good value. The room was clean, spacious and quiet. Particularly liked that I needed to leave before breakfast was being served so I asked the chef if I could come back after I checked out if I had a chance, she immediately said don't worry I will save you some or make you something when you come back if you can't have it now. Brilliant service!
