Carents House, hotel in Montacute

Featuring garden views, Carents House provides accommodation with a balcony, around 37 km from Golden Cap. It is located 17 km from Sherborne Old Castle and offers room service.

The property is in a beautiful village and was central to everywhere we wanted to visit. The accommodation is excellent with its own lounge come dining area, small kitchenette, good size bedroom with the largest bed we've ever slept in, and an on suite shower room and toilet. Diane and Stephen bring your breakfast to the room each morning, and it is one of the best breakfasts we've had with plenty of choice.

The Kings Arms Inn, hotel in Montacute

The Kings Arms is an 18th Century Inn located in the picturesque village of Montacute near to the stately home Montacute House, used for filming 'Sense and Sensibility'.

We had a great dinner and breakfast the following morning. The bar/dining area is very pleasant - staff are welcoming and there are nice areas to have your dog with you without overwhelming other guests who may not have a dog.

The room is unsuitable for people with mobility issues as you need to climb two sets of stairs to get to it. It was well appointed but very small. Parking is on the road or public car park. There is no breakfast on offer but I knew that when I booked. I was annoyed though to find that the shower didn't work and yes I read the instructions in the book. I left as soon as I could. It was too early to disturb anyone else in the building to get things sorted out. All in all, I feel the price of £72 was very expensive for the service I received. This place does not deserve 3 stars!

Shepherds Huts Ham Hill was a fantastic self catering accommodation which gives you exactly what you needed and more. Dean and Georgia were amazing hosts and loved their humour and we had the most amazing time. The forest trails and parks provided amazing hiking opportunities and being able to take furbabies on holiday provides all the comforts of home

We only had half an hour in the garden - but it was a very happy half hour (we had spent our day at Stourhead - and traveled when it was raining) - the sun came out for us at Monacute House - but we arrived half an hour before closing and had to move on next day - we will be back !

Montacute village is very charming and similar to a Cotswold village, with those golden yellow stone cottages. There are a number of National Trust houses and gardens close by, with Montacute House and Gardens in the village itself. The location of the village, is right on the cusp of Somerset, Dorset, Devon and Wiltshire, with easy access to coastal towns such as Lyme Regis and Seaton. Glastonbury and Bath are also within easy reach. The central location of Montacute makes it an ideal base for exploring all three counties.
