We booked Pennygate Lodge on a last minute whim and we are so glad we did! The accommodation was great, finished to a very high standard and so well looked after and cared for. We couldn’t recommend the restaurant enough, the food was superb and the new chef and barman fantastic. We will definitely be back- and be raving about it to everyone who’s visiting Mull!

Achnacriche B&B, hotel in Lochaline

Located in Bonnavoulin on the Morvern peninsula, Achnacriche B&B offers accommodation with free WiFi and flat-screen TV, as well as free bikes.

Elfik and Zuzana are superb hosts and their accommodation offers a relaxing and elegant stay nestled along the sound of mull and rugged west coastline. Their communication was exceptional and the attention to detail, from the cleanliness of the rooms to the preparation and presentation of meals, was first class. Their expertise in hospitality really shines through and they make the grace and luxury of their charming B&B seem effortless. Up the road there is a modern distillery where you can sample some new developments in the world of whiskey, and a little further on is the studio and small gallery of a talented local artist. The local people we met during our stay were lovely, we stopped to have a chat to everyone we met and were made to feel welcome in the community for the duration of our stay. If you are looking for a quiet getaway with good food, nice people, and plenty of natural scenery, look no further.

House was clean and well presented.

House was clean and well presented. The view was stunning in all weathers! Host could perhaps add curtains as blinds were too thin so very early wake ups when daylight shines in. This didn’t bother me but did annoy some of our group. Cottage is for 6 but only seating for 4 comfortably in the sitting room, 1 - 2 seater sofa and 2 armchairs could improve on this as there is space for more. Location like much of Scotland is struggling since leaving EU/ covid and lacks much options for a nice family evening meal. Community hub was fantastic for lunches but local white watch hotel was too “fancy” for a family to enjoy. Lochalin hotel will hopefully open in the future for evening meals but not operating currently. Driving is essential, and using the ferry daily to Mull for much of our activities was great but future guest need to be happy and aware of this. Mull is beautiful but roads are very narrow and food choices are limited to some nice cafes but we found the service in pubs/restaurants to be poor compared to other Scottish islands. 4 nights was enough for us and I don’t think we would need to come back again.

Attractive location and main street. (note that some guide books say it is an unattractive village but this really only applies to parts of the village which are away from the centre). Magnificent view from the window. Very good restaurant and well-stocked village shop

Fabulous Hosts who were knowledgeable, attentive and so friendly. The wildlife in the area is outstanding we seen deer, buzzards and an eagle. The mountains all around give the most stunning views and there was a tall ship sailing out from Lochaline on the morning we were leaving. Every day we seen different yachts, catamarans and fishing boats sailing by, It is a prime location for divers too, we met a team of amatuer divers in the local pub at the harbour who were telling us this was a favourite location for them and we could understand why! There are frequent ferry timetable to Mull giving another destination to visit. We loved every second here!
