Keith and Pauline were great hosts, very welcoming and friendly. The room and ensuite were clean and spacious and they provided some extra touches which were very much appreciated. I liked the way they had themed the rooms, each one being named after an old stamp and decorated accordingly. (They are The Old Post Office after all!) Their home is beautifully decorated with lots of knick-knacks and art work. There were several choices for breakfast which was delicious. They are situated in a beautiful area with good access to the City of Durham and Beamish Museum.

This was my first time in this area, I stayed in a rural environment and the views were amazing. I got lucky with sunny days and traveling around the area, the rolling hills were very eyecatching. Lovely views from the hill tops, there are lots of hills, not so good if you have trouble getting about, however driving around and taking in the views in the quiet country lanes was a big highlight for me. The towns are easy to find and are clustered around a twenty mile area, which means you don't have to travel far to see new things or visit a different towns.

Lanchester was a lovely location with easy access to Durham.
Lanchester was a lovely location with easy access to Durham. There were a variety of restaurants, we chose to eat in Clinton's which was next door to our accommodation, the old post office. The food was the best restaurant food I have had for a very long time. I would highly recommend the area and the facilities I used.

Really, we were not staying in Lanchester itself, but it does have two good restaurants and a good range of local shops, and there is free parking throughout, and there is a bypass that keeps unwanted traffic out of the town centre.

Burnhopeside Hall was even better than we had imagined and well will definitely stay again. We would highly recommend this property. The hosts were very helpful and the breakfasts were delicious. The house and garden are beautiful and coffee on the lawn is very special.
Burnhopeside Hall is one of the best bed and breakfasts I have stayed in.
Beautiful property, period features and so many antiques. Every room was very impressive. Most comfortable bed ever experienced in a hotel. The grounds were well maintained and ideal for my dog, Peggy.
The welcome we received from our host Phil including a tray of tea, a chat about our needs, he was genuinely interested in us as guests, we immediately relaxed in such beautiful surroundings. Phil also cooked a breakfast to die for…at a time convenient to us. Would recommend this hotel to friends & family. Thank you Phil.
A wonderful pub/hotel with exceptional service. The staff were exceptional. The food was excellent and tremendous value for money. The cost of the room including an excellent breakfast was also exceptional value for money. The bedrooms were large with extremely comfortable beds All in all a true gem of a place
Loved the room, bed was great toilet and shower were clean, the food was good and extremely cheap. I bought a New Yorker burger and chips. The staff were friendly and great hosts and the Inn it self is situated about 5 mins from a nature reserve which was an added bonus. Really enjoyed my short stay here.
Staff were very friendly and welcoming. Food was freshly prepared, wholesome and delicious. The room had everything we needed. There was a lovely atmosphere in the hotel - hard to describe but everyone in the place seemed at home.
Perfect location for local trips to Hartlepool, Beamish and the moors.
Lanchester itself also v good for local shops, eatery options etc.
Attentive staff making good efforts after a very recent change of hands.
So much character inside and out, perfectly placed in the heart of Lanchester Keith and Pauline are attentive hosts who made us very welcome. Can’t recommend enough what a fabulous place it is to stay.
Wonderful small inn, at a good location outside of Durham. Pub was great and we really enjoyed time spent there with the owners and a few locals. Rooms are newly renovated and comfortable.
