Burnhopeside Hall, hotel in Lanchester

Set within 15 km of Beamish Museum and 25 km of MetroCentre in Lanchester, Burnhopeside Hall offers accommodation with seating area.

I thought the breakfast was very good (vegetarian) and it was all made/delivered very promptly. I was pleased that I wasn't expected to be too early for breakfast!!! I appreciated the flexibility of not having to give a firm arrival time (as I wasn't sure when booking). I also appreciated the central heating being on (even thought it was May .... ) as it had rained heavily and, outside, it felt damp. The offer of being given local recommendations to eat was also welcomed, even though I didn't need it. Fresh milk in the room was great.

This was my first time in this area, I stayed in a rural environment and the views were amazing. I got lucky with sunny days and traveling around the area, the rolling hills were very eyecatching. Lovely views from the hill tops, there are lots of hills, not so good if you have trouble getting about, however driving around and taking in the views in the quiet country lanes was a big highlight for me. The towns are easy to find and are clustered around a twenty mile area, which means you don't have to travel far to see new things or visit a different towns.

Lanchester was a lovely location with easy access to Durham.

Lanchester was a lovely location with easy access to Durham. There were a variety of restaurants, we chose to eat in Clinton's which was next door to our accommodation, the old post office. The food was the best restaurant food I have had for a very long time. I would highly recommend the area and the facilities I used.

Really, we were not staying in Lanchester itself, but it does have two good restaurants and a good range of local shops, and there is free parking throughout, and there is a bypass that keeps unwanted traffic out of the town centre.

We didn't have much time to explore Lanchester only Burnhopeside Hall and had dinner at the Jolly Drover . We had visited nearby Beamish open air museum . The day and over night stay was brilliant . We definitely wished we had stayed for longer and we will definitely return .

Unique Hall with an amazing owner and staff. It is very calming with wonderful grounds and it feels as if you live there, the service is always there for you and yet it feels as if you have the Hall to yourself. Quite wonderful.

The house and garden are beautiful and coffee on the lawn is very special. Burnhopeside Hall is one of the best bed and breakfasts I have stayed in.

Beautiful property, period features and so many antiques. Every room was very impressive. Most comfortable bed ever experienced in a hotel. The grounds were well maintained and ideal for my dog, Peggy. The welcome we received from our host Phil including a tray of tea, a chat about our needs, he was genuinely interested in us as guests, we immediately relaxed in such beautiful surroundings. Phil also cooked a breakfast to die for…at a time convenient to us. Would recommend this hotel to friends & family. Thank you Phil.

Everything about The Old Post Office was great. The room was very spacious and comfortable, nicely appointed and with two big armchairs and extra little touches that were much appreciated. Our hosts were especially friendly and helpful and breakfast was delicious. The location was really good- Lanchester is a pretty little town, with the guesthouse right in the main street [and close to a great Greek restaurant] and not far from Durham.

Because of covid guests had breakfast in three different rooms, so plenty of space between guests. I was in the Billiard Room which was light & airy. Very large well appointed clean bedrooms & bathrooms decorated to high standards. Very comfortable bed, slept well every one of my five nights. Hotel situated in a quiet spot near Lanchester. Host Christine could not do enough to make your stay a brilliant one.

Loved the room, bed was great toilet and shower were clean, the food was good and extremely cheap. I bought a New Yorker burger and chips. The staff were friendly and great hosts and the Inn it self is situated about 5 mins from a nature reserve which was an added bonus. Really enjoyed my short stay here.
