The room was as usual for the same hotels. A room was repaired a long time ago (probably, a bathroom was refurbished), however, the room was clean. Breakfast was good, plenty of choice, both continental and English breakfast options. My personal opinion, £20 is too expensive for that, but if you prefer to eat lots in the morning, it's fine.
This city-centre hotel is 200 metres from Lancaster Castle and 500 metres from Lancaster Rail Station. It has free Wi-Fi. Guests at The Royal Kings Arms can enjoy drinks in the lounge.

Lovely rooms, really friendly host, I can’t comment on the breakfast as I had to leave early due to sickness, but I’d happily stay again

Very conveniently located for access to the M6 motorway,...
Very conveniently located for access to the M6 motorway, into Lancaster itself, into Morecambe but also inland into the countryside.
Rooms are the usual fare – clean and tidy but long corridors and a bit soulless.
Food is good.
Remember to register your vehicle registration otherwise you get a parking ticket. We weren't told this and have had to appeal against the ticket. If we lose it's a £100 fine.

I went to university here.
I went to university here. Lancaster is a handsome Northern city. NOT particularly pretty but with lots of architectural interest. The food at 'The Merchants' and 'The Quarterhouse' is excellent - and contrasting. It needs good restaurants and both of these are, in there own way, remarkable. Jay Rayner did a fantastic review of 'The Merchants' in The Guardian. He was right. Brilliant food in a nice setting right in the middle of town and also amazing value. It is 'pub prices' for really sophisticated, but 'wholesome' food. BOTH MUST survive, please.

I lived in Lancaster for almost 20 years and I love it.
I lived in Lancaster for almost 20 years and I love it. I still live locally and I went to the hotel as a reward/treat to myself after a significant loss in my life. Lancaster is quite a compact city which is crammed with history and culture and independent shops.

Had a guided tour of the castle which was very interesting.
Had a guided tour of the castle which was very interesting. We also visited the Abbey adjacent. We also like the promenade walk along the River Lune which is easily accessible from the hotel. Lancaster is built on hills so for the mobility limited it can be difficult to walk around. We drove directly to the castle car park for blue badge holders. We ate all meals in our hotel.

Lots of interesting buildings.
Lots of interesting buildings. People really friendly, good variety of shops. Went to a lovely sports bar facing the police station, decor amazing cocktails good too. Lots if restuarants to chose from had a lovely Turkish meal just up road from JD sports .seen some good talent at open mic bar . Will definitely recommend a visit to Lancaster I was pleasantly surprised.
Having read all the reviews we were expecting a high standard, however it for exceeded that with a fantastic welcome, an amazing room and great atmosphere. The room was aired and clean with a 1st rate welcome package. The Gateway can honestly rival any 1st class hotel in the Lancaster area. The bus stop outside means it’s in a prime location for non drivers and there is ample parking outside though. We traveled with our dog and were served breakfast outside in their fantastic garden.
It is convenient for a driver to use the facility as it has provided parking and makes life easier than trying to find a parking in town... The University is also accessible by bus, so it makes it all fine for people now willing to drive to town.
The rooms themselves are convenient, and access very easy.
The breakfast area is not in the hotel building, but it's not very far at all. It has a decent choice of food.
Everything.
Location in the countryside.
Easy access to Lancaster University by car.
Lovely ambiance
Friendly and helpful staff
Really good pub menu. Lunch and breakfast great.
Lovely cosy room perfect for single or couples. Nice decor, v clear and comfortable.
Better than most places to stay in the area and good value for money.
It's a pub with rooms rather than hotel but oh so comfy.
The room was larger than expected, spotlessly clean and the mattress was one of the most comfortable I have ever slept on! The location of the hotel was a short drive into the town centre and also near the motorway. Great value for money with friendly, helpful and welcoming staff!
The location is great as its right in the centre of Lancaster, the place looks great, staff were great and the room was lovely, best shower I have ever had in a hotel room as well. It was immaculately clean and there are many restaurants and tourist places nearby the hotel.
Great location. Very nice apartment. Bed a little soft, but able to sleep. Staircase easy to get up and down even though I am 86.
Was quiet outside looking out to a courtyard and a lovely coffee shop opposite.
Would stay again if I am ever in Lancaster again.
The staff were very friendly and accommodating.
The hotel is situated right in the heart of Lancaster which is a fantastic city with plenty of things to see and do and very friendly people.
We will definitely be staying here again !
Very well furnished house, close to town centre, easy to find and off street parking. Good comms from letter and overall a hassle free night in Lancaster, fantastic property, very comfy beds, it was hard to get up and leave!
Short walk from the train station. Lovely bar and hotel. Comfortable, clean room. lovely staff who were very helpful. breakfast was included in the date I paid and it was great. I also had an evening meal.
Didn't have breakfast. Used the swimming pool twice which was a welcome facility. Used the park and ride to go into Lancaster which was very convenient but no mention of it on the hotel website
The beds were really comfortable.
Location of hotel was perfectly situated near Lancaster Uni when visiting any students.
The location was perfect and quite calm for a relaxed short stay.
We stayed here for a tour of Lancaster and this hotel was ideally located. Staff very friendly and nice evening meal. Rooms clean and well kept. Ample parking.
Lovely hotel in central location of Lancaster. The room was spacious and nice. The personal was friendly and helpful. I also enjoyed my breakfast very much.
