Crown and Garter, hotel in Inkpen

Situated in the picturesque village of Inkpen, the Crown and Garter is a traditional English pub with stylish rooms, a restaurant and bakery. It opens onto a lovely garden.

We loved pretty much everything … it’s in a village location but easy reach of small towns. Bike rides and walks from the doorstep. Lovely pub building with a glorious garden and own separate courtyard coffee shop. Accommodation smart and comfortable, separate to the pub. Young staff, friendly and helpful

Elcot Park Hotel has undergone a complete refurbishment and is relaunching as ‘The Retreat’; a newly re-imaged 18th-century country house hotel and community beacon, set in 16 acres of magnificent...

So an initially really poor impression. Meal not served, a bartender who ‘short served’ my drink! However, a superb recovery from the management who served me a replacement drink and brought my meal to my room. And charged me for neither! Having worked in a customer facing environment for many years, mistakes happen! It is then the appreciation of a mistake and reparations which leaves the lasting feeling! So 10/10 for those who sorted out my evening. Would I go there again? Would I recommend it to others? Absolutely! A beautiful location with lots to offer and a management team who make things work for the customer!! Well done all! Dr, the Councillor, Past Lord Mayor of the City of Westminster.

Inkpen is a lovely area in the countryside. It is great if you want to get some peace and quiet but not so great if you want to walk to facilities. It is a good area if you want to explore both Berkshire and Wiltshire as it is close to the border of both shires.

There was THE BEST chinese I have ever eaten just across the road from where we stayed . . it was great value for money and the food was fabulous . . I can';t recommend it enough. Inkpen is very easy to get around too with great transport links and the BORIS bike type places a plenty. Not much bad to say to be honest!!

This was a great place for a stopover, with good food, very friendly service (they let you taste the beer before choosing one!) and a comfortable room. What we saw of the surrounding countryside was delightful, Hungerford had an interesting and quirky high street. Great for an overnight stay and probably for a weekend break also.

As we were only there overnight we did not really have the time to explore properly, but there were a group of walkers and some cyclists using the pub for a break so assume the area is very popular for those pursuits. We were visiting Hungerford so very handy. The pub has a good sized car park at the rear. They have a coffee shop on site which is obviously a big draw.

The room was very warm and difficult to reduce temperature.

The room was very warm and difficult to reduce temperature. The wardrobe and reception area of the room had lights that were not functioning making it difficult when entering in the dark. No one accessed the room to replenish water and toiletries. We really enjoyed the area . We ate mainly in the restaurant. We could not fault the service and food. Staff were polite, friendly and helpful.
