Friendly staff , reasonable size room. A dog bed was supplied ,which a first......meant we had less to take in with us,also easy to walk straight from the door early mornings. Parked easily just outside . Good location for tripping around The restuarant accomodated even though we hadn't booked and it was well worth eating there. Good freshly cooked local foods.

A friend and I booked the Youth Hostel at Holwick at the very last minute, as the first stop on a road trip from London. It was easy to find, the welcome was warm, the accommodation very clean and comfortable, fellow guests charming and interesting, and glorious walks (to High Force and Gibson's Cave, for example) from the doorstep. All at an unbeatable price.

Holwick is a very quiet location with lots of fresh air and stunning scenery in an area of outstanding natural beauty. Only 15 mins walk from the Pennine Way and the Low Force waterfall on the River Tees. Middleton in Teesdale, a small market town with some shops and pubs, is 3 miles away. All the pubs near-by do great food and are very friendly. If you are looking for peace and absolute quiet this is a great place. Lots of farm animals and a huge amount of bird wildlife.
