Our dog loved the freedom to roam the grounds, and the railway walk was perfect for long strolls. The secluded atmosphere and incredibly friendly staff made our stay truly relaxing.

Chequer Cottage and it’s owners were most welcoming. The room was cosy and tastefully decorated with the little details that made it a special stay. Fantastic.

The main PH was charming. Unfortunately the Restaurant area was closed due to lack of bookings so our main meal was in the bar area.

Very pretty. Great communication from the host when we booked very last minute and late in the day. Some chocolates, biscuits, coffees, teas left. Awesome huge bath and some toiletries. Good facilities in kitchen, lounge - plenty of TV channels etc. Comfortable bedroom. Old building so does feel chilly but great central heating system warms it up quickly. Imagine it will still feel nice and cool in summer!

One main high street, with a entertainment complex consisting of a couple of restaurants and multi-screen cinema off the main road behind it. There are a lot of empty shopping units on the high street. Pubs wise :
The Royal Exchange - seemed like a locals pub with lots of screens for sport. Quite busy early evening Saturday. Nethergate Ales on. Not sure on food times as no-one was eating but there were sauce bottles about.
Queens Head - oldest pub in Haverhill - appears to be a bit dirty with dusty glasses hanging above the bar. TV for sport but I think its just terrestial no sky etc. No food and Cash Only.
The Bull - easily the best pub with two pool tables and well kept Guinness.
Drabet Smock - Typical Weatherspoons but quiter than most with plenty of tables available. Not many drunks rolling about either,
Nine Jars - it is said to be Haverhills place for the younger people with music and other bits to keep them amused such as a selfie booth. Well all I can say is the young people of Haverhill must have gone into Cambridge that night (saturday) as it was not busy at all - however the music was too loud so we didn't stay.
Anne of Cleeves house worth a walk upto.
Haverhill is a perfect location - just half hour from Newmarket Races, and you can plot a decent route down some narrow lanes to avoid traffic. Not sure what its like on Guineas weekend etc - but on a normal race weekend it was a good choice.

AVOID for all conferences!!!
Absolutely dreadful!
AVOID for all conferences!!!
Absolutely dreadful! As a Director within an international Group, this is by far the worst treatment I have ever experienced.
If you are planning a conference…AVOID!
Lovely little self contained studio, well appointed, clean and great value. Everything from access to the property to the items in the fridge was done so well.
I've stayed in hotels paid three times as much and not enjoyed my stay, so this was perfect for my wife and I.
Contrary to what some have said about the bed looking like a foldaway, the mattress was firm and comfy, slept very well.
Excellent pub Accomodation at a great price, but it’s the people who make it on top of that.. from a warm friendly welcome on arrival to some fantastic help on departure the team were fantastic. I required some work documents printing and Keith (landlord) couldn’t have done more, they will look after you way beyond any hotel chains! THANK YOU!
The hotel met more than my needs and the staff were very helpful and obliging. Nothing was too much trouble for them.
I will certainly not hesitate to stay again should the need arise.
It was close to the town and there was a bus stop more or less opposite and a large supermarket just a few hundred yards away. I couldn't ask for more.
LOCATED IN OPEN COUNTRY ABOUT 30 MINUTES DRIVE SOUTH OF CAMBRIDGE.
APPEARS TO DERIVE MOST OF ITS INCOME FROM CONFERENCES AND WEDDINGS BUT NOTHING ON THE DAY I STAYED.
THERE WAS ONLY ONE OTHER PERSON STAYING AT THE HOTEL.
ROOM WAS SPACIOUS AND COMFORTABLE WITH GOOD BREAKFAST.
Stayed one night, the room was perfect, spotlessly clean and one of the most comfortable beds I have ever had in a hotel.
The grounds were beautifully kept, set in quiet countryside.
Breakfast was freshly cooked and very tasty.
There wasn't any breakfast due to the heatwave but we were informed beforehand. We have stayed here before know the hotel and area well. The hotel is a bit tired now and could do with a good make over.
Better directions would have helped as thankfully bar staff were still there to let me in. Also a note saying which pub the hotel is over would be useful.
