Holiday Inn Express Leigh - Sports Village, an IHG Hotel, hotel in Glazebury

The Holiday Inn Express Leigh is situated adjacent to the state-of-the-art Leigh Sports Village. Located just off the A580 that links Manchester and Liverpool and 4 miles from the M6 motorway.

For me, this hotel excels in the seven areas I need: 1. It's clean 2. It's safe 3. Comfortable beds 4. Great showers 5. Reasonable prices 5. Plenty of parking 7. Great location (easy to find and exit, big supermarket within a few minutes of walking, hot meals at the nearby pub again within 5-10 mins walk, and large shops nearby in the Sports Village for when you realise you've forgotten something). I don't need staff to be running around after me, they just need to check me in and out efficiently and ensure I have a clean room, and the Holiday Inn Express team here are great at this. (Special thanks to Wendy [I think?] and Thea from Reception, and especially to Steven from the housekeeping team!) They're a small team who seem to be working hard and doing a pretty intensive job on their feet for hours at a time looking after hundreds of guests but everyone I met was pleasant and quick to answer any questions. The air-con is loud to start but it's effective and after the first half-hour it just became background noise. Same when there was a very cold night - the little panel by the door is easy to use and soon warmed up the room. There's also a little heater in the room in case you get chill. I've stayed at other hotels in the same price range and this one is head and shoulders above them. Will definitely continue to try to stay here whenever I'm in the area. Thank you.

Holiday Inn Haydock, an IHG Hotel, hotel in Glazebury

The hotel is superbly located, just off junction 23 of the M6 motorway, next to Haydock Park Racecourse, and serves as a gateway to the entire North West region.

Breakfast was very good and catered for our needs. The dinner was excellent and the room was very clean with a comfy bed. We liked the pool area and the bar was very nice, although a little tight when busy. Also, the electric car charging point was well located.

The staff were very friendly and helpful.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was clean, nice and warm, with en-suite shower, tv, and tea and coffee making facilities. I ate in the restaurant downstairs, which is open until 8pm. I would ask for a room overlooking the front of the hotel, as mine (no 5) overlooked the fire escape to the rear so I had to keep the blind down for privacy, and also the window could not be opened, so it was a bit stuffy! When you exit the property, you are asked to use the rear fire escape, which persons with mobility issues might struggle with (there is no lift). The hotel is good value for money. For gardening buffs, there is a large garden centre (Bents) nearby and it is a short drive to local supermarkets. I only stayed one night, so did not get much time to explore the surrounding area.

The bathroom sink is so small one cannot cup hands to rinse face; the shaving mirror is two mirror tiles some 5'2" from the floor not easy to shave on tiptoe. Sink also too small to stand shaving foam etc. on and no shelf. The toilet makes a lot of noise and the toilet paper is still there 3 days later. There's a full size kettle, which cannot be filled directly from tiny sink, so had to stand it on a low tredle bin and fill with small cup.

Room3 Lock was broken so couldn’t lock the door.

Room3 Lock was broken so couldn’t lock the door. When I went to tell them, they already knew it was broken and had forgot to fix it. They gave me some pliers to lock/unlock the door for the night. Toilet didn’t flush unless using the toilet brush too. Couldn’t control the heating. My room was freezing and I was told it’s on a timer. However I didn’t notice it being on at all. No storage for toiletries in bathroom due to small size Kettle didn’t fit in the sink to fill it up To get to the desk after 7pm you need to go out the back exit, past the bins and in the front door. Not ideal in poor weather when the bins stink. No restaurant service on the day I was there I’m sure other people have much better experiences if this hotel but I did not
