A thoroughly good stopover for persons not concerned with being away from a more centralised position. I’m glad we tried it out , the welcome was great , the whole staff friendly , the chef was first rate with the meals we had and the choices on offer, the breakfast porridge was the best I’ve eaten!!!!!

We really enjoyed our stay at The Royal Oak, Gillamoor.
We really enjoyed our stay at The Royal Oak, Gillamoor. We were there for one night, had a very enjoyable meal in the restaurant in the evening and extremely filling breakfast the next morning.
The room we stayed in was a twin and on the small side but perfect for one night. The rooms with the extra large beds are a better size and would be more comfortable for longer stays. The bathrooms, if a bit dated, were well equipped with lots of soaps, shampoo etc, very hot water and the towels were a generous size.
The restaurant provided a good selection of delicious well presented, beautifully cooked food. The breakfast was very generous.

Lovely village located close to some stunning views of the Moors. Few facilities within the village except for the local pub - which we found enjoyable. Only a few miles to larger villages and towns with all conveniences if you need them.
Couldn't find faults - after a week travelling the Lake District it was a very welcome 2 night break before heading home.

Gillamoor is a beautiful quiet Yorkshire moorland village which is ideal for those to explore the Moors. A car would be essential to travel to local places including Helmsley, Whitby, Castle Howard and Goathland/Grosmont to see/travel on the steam railway.
The food at the Royal Oak was excellent, there were two lovely tea rooms in the next village Hutton le hole which can be walked to either over the top of the moor along the road or through the wood and fields on the footpath.
