Excellent location on the Pennine Way. Lovely, helpful staff, big spacious, light, warm room and a deep bath which was just what the doctor ordered. Tasty dinners, decent breakfasts. And kind enough to provide us with a towel for our muddy dog.

We didn't actually see any signs for Burtree Ford, as the cottage is in Ireshopeburn. We enjoyed walking along the main path out of the village but didn't use other local footpaths due to recent heavy rain (and our plans to see friends). There is a bus stop immediately outside the cottage but we used our car everyday.

The cottage was beautiful. warm and cosy.
The cottage was beautiful. warm and cosy. There is a large garden ideal for the dog and everything you need is close by and within walking distance. The locals are really friendly and helpful and we ate in the local pub. If you like peace and quiet this is ideal.
The only thing that let us down was the weather and the fact I had written down the wrong key code which delayed getting into the cottage!!

The cottage was a perfect base to explore the area. Easy access to the Pennines natural beauty areas.
Lots of pubs locally but make sure you phone first as we went in November and things start slowing down with the reduced opening times.
Didn’t get Time to visit Barnard Castle but hopefully next time.
3 good reservoirs close by to walk around.

When you stay at Burtree Ford, you will find a very welcoming cottage presented beautifully, and also very functional and comfortable. The views from the back of the cottage are stunning. There is plenty of space, the kitchen has lots of storage.
Be aware that there is no TV, however if you bring your laptop you can watch iplayer as long as it is not plugged in at the time. You will need to check this yourself in the licensing laws.
A great place to eat is Cross keys pub in Eastgate.
