We found the staff particularly helpful and friendly
This elegant 18th-century country house is situated amid the quiet of the Somerset countryside, yet within reach of the M5, just 8 km from Taunton and Ilminster.

In summary: food very good; lounge/bar not a comfortable area; dining room ambience soulless; room good except for electricals and heating. The strength of Farthings is the ability of the chef to produce very good meals. The front-of-house staff seemed to have a disinterested attitude as if they regretted being in the hospitality trade. No-one raised a smile. Perhaps they really are in the wrong job and to the detriment of their guests?

Nothing at all.. was a disaster of a place. Was greeted with there's your key your rooms upstairs. Not told about check out or breakfast times..We were not told about the late night dj who played loud dance music till 2am and was just below our window which was single pane glass. We were then inundated with loud screaming swearing and shouting and fighting outside the hotel. This went on for a further 1hr 30 minutes. At this point it was now 3.30am and no sleep. We both finally got an hour of sleep and the morning staff Came on shift and stood below our window and were having full on loud conversations which woke both myself and my partner. Wouldn't recommend staying at this establishment at all. I will be seeking a full refund.
There didn't seem to be much actually in Buckland St Mary...
There didn't seem to be much actually in Buckland St Mary but it is so close to Chard and being just off A303 it was within easy reach of loads of places. Ideal spot for a quiet get away. The Eagle Italian Restaurant was a fabulous place to eat which is only a few minutes up the A303.
