The Riviera Hotel & Apartments - Alum Chine, hotel in Bournemouth

The Riviera Hotel has a peaceful location, looking out over the trees of Alum Chine to the bay. With free Wi-Fi and free parking, leisure facilities include a hot tub and indoor pool.

I've stayed here many times over the years, when it was a fully private hotel & it was always good. The new owners have, thankfully, not changed much at all & the service is still very good from check in to checkout. The location is quite peaceful & pretty much everything you might need is provided to a good standard. Still highly recommended, especially the rooms with sea views 🤗

FAQs about hotels in Bournemouth

Sea Air and Savoir-Faire

Known for its sandy beaches and good nightlife, Bournemouth is a popular seaside resort on the Dorset coast between Poole and Christchurch.

The town is centred on the Bourne River, running downhill towards the sea by Bournemouth Pier. This pier looks back towards a promenade lined with beach huts at the foot of grassy cliffs. The promenade continues west to Poole, while a road goes east to neighbouring Boscombe, where anglers often fish from its pier. Overlooking it is a clifftop road housing some Bournemouth hotels with sea views.

Booking.com also offers hotels near the BIC – Bournemouth International Centre in the West Cliff area. This convention centre and music venue is a short walk from the Art Deco Pavilion Theatre, located next to the Lower Gardens. In this popular city park is the Bournemouth Eye, a tethered hot air balloon that offers far-reaching views.

At the park’s top end the river disappears under a large square, then emerges in the Central Gardens. Overlooking these gardens is the Victorian town hall, which used to be one of several spa hotels in Bournemouth. Opposite is a Grade I-listed church, and St Peter’s Church has the grave of Mary Shelley, author of ‘Frankenstein’.

On the outskirts of town, near 4 golf courses and the Castlepoint Shopping Centre, is Bournemouth Airport.

Bournemouth has much to commend it; but as with any seaside resort, has much more to offer during the summer. Nonetheless the Christmas lights are very pretty, with ice skating and other attractions. Seek and enjoy!

Stayed for one night at alum chine and walked into Bournemouth via the beach. Very enjoyable. The pier and choice of leisure activities and eatery’s is very good. Bournemouth sadly has many problems with homeless people and crime. We were aware of the presence of others who displayed antisocial behaviour and felt bad for Greggs who have key code toilets with uv lighting to prevent use for drugs. Not many shops in Bournemouth city centre Poole has much bigger choice.

The hotel was amazing, and this wasn't my first experience here. After receiving excellent service on previous visits, I always choose to return. The reception staff, in particular, were outstanding—exceptionally helpful, which is a rare find even among other hotels of the same star rating in Bournemouth. The room was clean and tidy, and the location is fantastic, with an easy walk to the beach.

Great location in town centre, you’ll be just steps away from the square, beach, restaurants, cinema. I think the hotel is best suited for guests coming to Bournemouth to party. There is a nice cocktail bar and night club in the premises and it can get pretty loud (of which I was warned about beforehand). Personally I wasn’t too bothered by the noise.
