we were the only people in the bunkhouse. it was so good to have frozen food in the freezer and tea ,coffee and other staples with an honesty payment box. we would have been very hungry if not as the pub was closed on Mondays.

Apartment was ok. It was furnished to a nice standard. And it was in a central location, if you can park somewhere near it. The owner is responsive to your messages.

As I was cycling,I asked for directions from several people, but the best I was given was to walk along the side of the dual carriageway ! I later discovered,by myself a bridleway that went straight to the foot of the village, although the pub itself is still some distance uphill and not signposted. The pub itself is obviously an old property, the room was basic, the breakfast was already in the room in a small fridge. The cereal was ok as was the coffee, but the yogurt was off. Another cyclist I met,was surprised that the pub was accepting guests. It could be so much better with a little effort,I had to wait till I passed a small retail outlet,to have a more substantial breakfast.

Acomb is quiet and five minutes drive from Hexham or Hadrian's Wall and Northumbria is on the doorstep. It has 4 pubs, three in the village and one just outside. I tried 2 pubs and they were welcoming and reasonable. There is a fish and chip takeaway towards the end of the week at the side of the Queen Arms
