This Gite has a lot of character and over the years many international pilgrims of the Frances Camino have gathered here to cross into Spain on the route Napoleon. The operators are friendly, efficient and offer kitchen privileges and an early breakfast to send the pilgrims off prepared.

All but the cost. Paid in advance 2 nights but then found out that I would need to vacate from 11am to 3pm, and I was looking to rest then before my Camino .. once I learned I wouldn't be able to use the private room that I rented I asked for a refund of the 2nd day and I vacated the unit. As I checked out by 10am and gave notice, I'm sure they were able to rent again but upon requesting refund for the 2nd day by text and email .. no response.

Pascal, Joe, and Christina are Camino Angels. They provide a home for you. They feed you. They want you to succeed. They’ll do anything to help. Me? The last night before ascending the Pyrenees, my front crown fell out. They immediately directed me to a dentist and from 7 to 9 that evening I was getting a root canal. The following day I climbed the mountain. You must stay there !!

SJPDP is the traditional starting point for el Camino de Santiago's French route. You can feel all the positive energy and excitement from the Peregrinos at portas of their journey.
Although the first stage from SJPDP, crossing the Pyrenees to Spain, is challenging the journey and the satisfaction of completing it is multiple times more rewarding and will remain as a memorable experience!

There is surely more to do and see in Saint Jean-Pied-de-Port than we had time for. The Hotel Ramuntcho was perfect in every way. We were in town only for one night before beginning the Camino, and we would have been delighted to stay longer had time allowed.

We went to St Jean because it is the starting point of the French Camino. It is a charming place, lots of good places to stay and eat - though the prices in a cafe we stopped at are a lot higher than in nearby Spain! 5 Euros for a glass of wine compared with 1.5 Euros in Spain!

Well, we ate one of the restaurants where we could sit outside. Unfortunately I’ve forgotten the name of the restaurant. The food was good. The restaurant was quite busy. I gave the cashier €50 and was short changed €20. 🤨

Beautiful town at the start of the Camino frances.
Beautiful town at the start of the Camino frances. Not good for dairy and gluten allergy though and not every restaurant and bar proprietor is friendly. Hardly anything provided in any language other than french. Looking forward to crossing into Spain.

The host made a wonderful breakfast with a croissant, nice baguette bread and on the second day she even had homemade yoghurt.
The room had everything I needed including a hairdryer and a warm blanket and was super quiet. I also especially liked that if I closed the outside shudder it was completely dark in the room something I often miss in hotels.
The bed & breakfast is a little outside of the town, 1o min approx. I liked that and had no trouble going back and forth. I enjoyed that it was so quiet.
Our host Alicia was the loveliest person and was so attentive! Brought us a beautiful breakfast in the morning before we started our pilgrimage. The Camino Real was like a lovely little boutique hotel with so much attention to detail. Spotlessly clean and lovely decor, thick heavy blankets for sleeping, a beautiful private garden, everything you could want or need. Definitely stay here if in Saint-Jean -Pied -de- Port! Thank you Alicia for your wonderful hospitality!
Quiet, comfortable, spotless and a great stay. The room is amazing. Spacious bathroom. Big comfy bed. Has everything you need and more. Kitchen and large lounge area with balcony area overlooking the valley below. Magnificent views. walking distance to all tourist attractions, cafes and restaurants. Some incredible traditional French cuisine within 10 minutes. Accommodation on the Camino.
Absolutely pleasure to stay there
Great Albuergue for the beginning of the Camino. The owner was friendly and accomodating, and wished that we take our own "Camino" without feeling like he we have to keep up with others.
This was my first night in an Albergue, so I recommend a sleeping bag, facemask and earplugs for anyone who is unfamiliar.
VVF was nice. It had all the basics for a complete unit. We were able to cook our own meals, it had a good sized refrigerator and freezer. The pool was great on the hot days. It was only about a 10 minute walk downhill into the historic village. It is located right on the Camino Frances.
The hostelier was very friendly & welcoming on arrival. I was made to feel comfortable even though I was nervous about starting the Camino Frances the next day. Also, one of my Camino family members ended up being in that same room that night & now I've got a brother for life 💖
Wonderful hotel and the best start to my Camino de Santiago I could have asked for. They took good care of me and gave detailed instructions on the risks of this first stage. I’m grateful and wish I would have stayed another day. I’ll be back.
Very friendly staff. I arrived on a late train and the owner was waiting for me with the keys. Had some trouble with the TV and called for help. Help arrived within two minutes. I highly recommend this hotel.
Perfect suite to start the Camino from or just enjoy Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port. Ideal location. Nice little garden sitting area. Well supplied kitchen. Great breakfast to start your walk.
we had an absolutely wonderful stay at this hotel. the room was lovely, the location ideal, and Aurore could not have been kinder or more helpful. highly recommend!!
This was a perfect place to stay as we prepared to begin the Camino Frances. Our room had a small kitchen which helped with meals and the location was perfect.
