It was a very pretty village/ Town in the mountains. Suitable for walkers with lovely cafe's and restaurants and useful supply base before starting the camino. Local people were very friendly and quirky as well. It is full of character and history.

SJPDP is the traditional starting point for el Camino de Santiago's French route. You can feel all the positive energy and excitement from the Peregrinos at portas of their journey.
Although the first stage from SJPDP, crossing the Pyrenees to Spain, is challenging the journey and the satisfaction of completing it is multiple times more rewarding and will remain as a memorable experience!

There is surely more to do and see in Saint Jean-Pied-de-Port than we had time for. The Hotel Ramuntcho was perfect in every way. We were in town only for one night before beginning the Camino, and we would have been delighted to stay longer had time allowed.

We went to St Jean because it is the starting point of the French Camino. It is a charming place, lots of good places to stay and eat - though the prices in a cafe we stopped at are a lot higher than in nearby Spain! 5 Euros for a glass of wine compared with 1.5 Euros in Spain!

Well, we ate one of the restaurants where we could sit outside. Unfortunately I’ve forgotten the name of the restaurant. The food was good. The restaurant was quite busy. I gave the cashier €50 and was short changed €20. 🤨

Beautiful town at the start of the Camino frances.
Beautiful town at the start of the Camino frances. Not good for dairy and gluten allergy though and not every restaurant and bar proprietor is friendly. Hardly anything provided in any language other than french. Looking forward to crossing into Spain.

What a wonderful stay. right on the main street in St. Jean Pied de Port, a short block from the Pilgrim Office for the Camino Frances. Lovely, upbeat and attentive host; very comfy room, more than ample breakfast, part of which host bagged up for me to take; she also noted good restaurants and a bakery for provisions for my walk. An ideal start to the Camino! Catherine (sp?) so kindly offered to take my picture as I started out on my walk, a picture I now treasure.
What a wonderful way to begin my Camino de Santiago! I loved this place. The woman that was there was kind and very welcoming. The place felt like home. The morning breakfast was very good and the the group gathering was fantastic! It really was the perfect start to my adventure. I thought of the Albergue many times during my hike. I think it was the best Albergue I stayed in.
Great location - right near the pilgrim office, restaurants and shops. Our host Aurore was delightful - so helpful and great communicator, so made check in etc super easy. Lots of lovely touches to make this home from home - fruit/cereal/juices/teas and coffee provided. Aurore goes out of her way to make your stay one to remember. Would highly recommend.
Beautiful settings,
The hotel offered a good communal kitchen and dinning area with amazing views.
Warm and friendly reception, very welcolming to arrived after a long day travel from Paris.
The peaceful location, clean rooms, and right on the Napoleon way makes the short hike up the hill all the more worthwhile.
Highly recommended
Great Albuergue for the beginning of the Camino. The owner was friendly and accomodating, and wished that we take our own "Camino" without feeling like he we have to keep up with others.
This was my first night in an Albergue, so I recommend a sleeping bag, facemask and earplugs for anyone who is unfamiliar.
This was the perfect place to begin my Camino. Lovely accommodations and even lovelier hosts. The pilgrims communal dinner was perfect and a beautiful way to set the tone for the rest of the Camino. The early 6am breakfast was appreciated too as it was a long and arduous walk to Roncevalles!
This hotel was excellent. Meticulously clean, Marc was welcoming and helpful, right in the heart of town, beautifully designed, thoughtful amenities. It was the perfect place to recover from jetlag before setting off on our Camino journey and business retreat. Thank you Marc!
Breakfast was very good. A shame that some guests think it's ok to steal food for their lunch. Breakfast very good, we had a parking space for our motorcycle. Room had a nice balcony, & the hotel is right in the centre of lots of bars and restaurants.
it was nearly at “ground zero” - a <10 minute walk to the “Camino de Santiago” Pilgrims’ Office. we also had the opportunity to have breakfast before departure - but we were in a hurry to start our journey.
Wonderful vibe from the manager and an excellent stay for first night on the Camino Frances. Easy to find, close to the start of the trail, great food options, comfortable bed - Highly recommend!
Amazing location I side the old city walls. Accommodation was finished to a very high standard and very comfortable. A beautiful hotel and a great stay. Highly recommended!
Amazing place to stay - the people, the accommodation & the food! Would most definitely stay here again should I ever manage to return to this beautiful place 💚
