Perfect place to stay to start our Camino. Could not have had a more consummate host than Catherine. We use Booking.com extensively, and I rate her in the top 1% of any we have had the pleasure to work with. The location is perfect. We were exceptionally pleased with the family guest room as we had two of our adult kids with us. The beds were great and the facility was clean and well maintained. Breakfast was superb. I would give this place higher than a 10 if I could! No exaggeration.

SJPDP is the traditional starting point for el Camino de Santiago's French route. You can feel all the positive energy and excitement from the Peregrinos at portas of their journey.
Although the first stage from SJPDP, crossing the Pyrenees to Spain, is challenging the journey and the satisfaction of completing it is multiple times more rewarding and will remain as a memorable experience!

There is surely more to do and see in Saint Jean-Pied-de-Port than we had time for. The Hotel Ramuntcho was perfect in every way. We were in town only for one night before beginning the Camino, and we would have been delighted to stay longer had time allowed.

We went to St Jean because it is the starting point of the French Camino. It is a charming place, lots of good places to stay and eat - though the prices in a cafe we stopped at are a lot higher than in nearby Spain! 5 Euros for a glass of wine compared with 1.5 Euros in Spain!

Well, we ate one of the restaurants where we could sit outside. Unfortunately I’ve forgotten the name of the restaurant. The food was good. The restaurant was quite busy. I gave the cashier €50 and was short changed €20. 🤨

Beautiful town at the start of the Camino frances.
Beautiful town at the start of the Camino frances. Not good for dairy and gluten allergy though and not every restaurant and bar proprietor is friendly. Hardly anything provided in any language other than french. Looking forward to crossing into Spain.

This is an absolute gem in the heart of St-Jean-Pied-du-Port for the beginning of The Camino Frances. The hotel is spotless, the staff so friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast was plentiful and it offers a kettle and tea bags. The home has been updated but still has on old world charm. I would highly recommend this hotel as a luxury start for your Camino or any other person visiting this quaint town. Five stars.
I stayed here before beginning my first Camino, so this was my first Albergue experience. I hope the rest are at least as good. My bed (not a bunk bed) was in an alcove with privacy curtains I could close. There was an electrical outlet and a basket in the alcove so charging my devices was easy and convenient. I enjoyed the quiet common room and the simple adequate breakfast the next morning. I would definitely stay here again.
Nice place to stay. Clean room with a mini-kitchen, stocked with enough utensils to be useful. Decent bathroom, air-conditioning, and great location between the train station and the Main Street in town. Nice place to stay before beginning the Camino. Lots of nearby restaurants.
One of the best hostels/albergues I've ever staid in. The hosts, Pascal and Joe are simply wonderful people who will do everything they can to make your stay enjoyable. Great hosts, great food, great accommodations.
Location was perfect, on the main street near places we wanted to visit for our start on the Camino. We had a warm welcome when we arrived and they were able to accommodate our earlier than planned arrival.
The apartment was fantastic aircon struggled in 43deg days but was a relief after the heat. The staff at the hotel were fabulous friendly and helpful. The free walking tour with Diago was a highlight.
Gite Bidean is very convenient to the start of the Camino Frances. The hosts Pascal and Joe are very friendly, helpful and go above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable. Dinner was delicious.
I absolutely recommend this place to anyone starting the Camino frances and if I’d walk it again, I will come back here. Thank you so much for a perfect start on my Camino journey.
My stay was exceptional!!! What a welcoming atmosphere and staff! The send off in the morning was so meaningful!!! I would stay here again if I did the Camino Frances again!!!
