Chateau de la Foltière, hotel in Le Châtellier

Set in the botanic gardens of Upper Brittany, this 19th-century castle offers spacious guest rooms with antique furnishings, all overlooking the gardens.

This is a gem and that is why we have stayed there three times and hope to do so again. The Chateau is in the centre of a remarkable and exceptionally beautiful garden. The spacious five guest rooms are all on the first floor and there is a lift. Our suite consisted of a large Bedroom with old fashioned wardrobe plus desk and chairs. Tea and coffee making items are present. The large on-suite bathroom had an excellent shower. The only fault I noted was the lack of a full curtain [There were no prying eyes for kilometres]. Breakfast is in the dining room on the ground floor and is beautifully presented. Evening meals can be arranged with the excellent restaurant at the garden centre entrance. When the public have left the gardens one has the park to oneself. The charming young lady who administers the venue is helpful and friendly with much better English than our French. There is a tearoom on the terrace open when the public are admitted.

We needed overnight stay nothing expensive but reasonable for few hours of sleep to carry on with journey. Very convenient off the motorway, room spacious and clean with lovely bathroom in our room. Our price included breakfast before departure. We think it was excellent value for pur money! But it was very special thanks to the amazing staff especially Akin, made us feel so welcomed and in the morning made extra effort to help out with breakfast and that we're ready to go on our journey. It's got to be complete package and therefore full 10 stars from us. Will save this hotel for oir future trips.

The Originals Boutique, Hôtel Le Lion d'Or, Fougères Ouest, hotel in Le Châtellier

The Originals Boutique, Hôtel Le Lion d'Or, Fougères Ouest is located in the village of Saint-Brice-en-Coglès, just a 30-minute drive from Pontorson and near the Mont Saint-Michel.

Staff were polite, helpful and efficient. Majority also spoke good English which helped my poor French language. Spacious accommodation, clean and everything worked except for the balcony doors which didn’t lock ( mechanical issue) but caused us no real hardship.
