A comfortable hotel close to the Canal du Midi cycle route. Welcoming and friendly staff. My bike was stored overnight in the basement of the restaurant across the road. Good breakfast in the continental style. Charming restaurant and half - board option which can be changed with a small supplementary charge.
Located in Castelnaudary, by the canal, Hôtel du Canal offers a bar and a garden. It offers a terrace featuring a view of the canal and soundproofed rooms with an LCD, satellite TV and a telephone.

The man at the front desk of the hotel was very helpful. When I realized that the room we had been assigned did not have air conditioning and it was pretty hot that day, he offered us another room, albeit at an additional fee. The first room had a nice view of the canal. The second room did not have much of a view. The room was compact and tight for 2 people. It is an older looking building and the facilities were adequate albeit a little rustic. There was ample parking though the lot was not that well maintained with unkempt bushes around. The town is kind of sleepy and most of the restaurants were closed. We strolled along the Canal du Midi (one of the oldest canals in Europe that is still in operation) and stopped to admire the Grand Bassin. At least the history of the canal is interesting.
We paid EUR 12 per person for the breakfast and it was not bad. There was a decent selection of sweet and savory items.
