We already knew this was a good hotel but particularly appreciated the staff on this occasion.. We didn't realise the restaurant was closed at the weekend these days. I did call the hotel at least 3 times in the morning but the phone was permanently engaged?? And following problems with no internet at the aire en route I didn't receive Aline's news until it was too late. She went to some trouble to be helpful and a simple meal in our room got us through the night thanks to her. This hotel is as lovely as we remember. Sorry to miss out on the restaurant this time. On departure Catherine identified a group hotel that would work for us on the next stage of the journey. nothing was too much trouble.

This is our third annual visit. We feel so welcome. The food is lovely and the village is amazing. We use this as our first stop after the Eurotunnel from UK on our European motorbike trips.
The owner is brilliant: a great sense of humour and he cares. A lot.

Everything was well thought of there were games, tea and coffee, suggestions on local restaurants, baby friendly furniture, iron, etc. It was very nicely furnished and everything was clean and neat also very good taste in design. The communication went well with the owner.

Chaumont is a small provincial capital (22,000 people), with limited tourist appeal. The most important sight is the 600 metre railway viaduct, just beyond the station; it's worfth a detour. One can visit the main buildings in the city in a couple of hours on foot. The Centre National de Graphisme, which is recommended, was open only from 2 pm when we were there. We dined in the restaurant of the Hotel des Remparts, which was unexpectedly excellent; curiously, it's closed on Sundays and Mondays, but otherwise reservations might be needed.
This quiet city is fine for a one-night stay.

Exit from motorway shut has been for sometime had to exit next junction 22 kilometres away and then 40 kilometres back to Chaumont. French highway control should be bring people off junction earlier. Sat nav didn’t pick up closed junction.

We had a few hours to visit the centre and/or buildings. City centre is poor and poverly. We found almost no restaurants - and only then open after 19.00 hrs.....on reservation.
For resting place it is ok - (distance south/north) but there are more interesting places. The restaurant we found (Le Tandem) was extraordinay good....
We could walk from our hotel tot the city centra in 10 minutes.

After staying in a not very pleasant hotel in Switzerland it was a relief to stay in a clean, comfortable and modern hotel in Chaumont. An ideal location for anybody travelling across France from the UK. The staff were lovely too.

A very good continental breakfast consisting of tea or coffee, bread, jams, croissants etc.
The Le Royal is well located on a one way street, 5 minutes from the town centre. Where there are many nice bars and restaurants in a quiet location.
Arrived at 15.00, parked in free large secure car park and was greeted by the happy smiling owners. Then sat in hotel bar to enjoy a deserved drink after travelling from Chamonix.
