Le Royal, hotel in Chaumont

Located in Chaumont, just a 5-minute walk from the town centre, Le Royal offers a bar and a shared TV lounge.

The staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel is in a suburban street, but less than 10 minutes' walk from restaurants, including Restaurant Des Remparts, excellent, and from the Centre National de Graphisme, although unfortunately the latter was open only from 2 pm. Parking was immediately adjacent to the hotel, with easy access.

Chaumont is a small provincial capital (22,000 people), with limited tourist appeal. The most important sight is the 600 metre railway viaduct, just beyond the station; it's worfth a detour. One can visit the main buildings in the city in a couple of hours on foot. The Centre National de Graphisme, which is recommended, was open only from 2 pm when we were there. We dined in the restaurant of the Hotel des Remparts, which was unexpectedly excellent; curiously, it's closed on Sundays and Mondays, but otherwise reservations might be needed. This quiet city is fine for a one-night stay.

Exit from motorway shut has been for sometime had to exit next junction 22 kilometres away and then 40 kilometres back to Chaumont. French highway control should be bring people off junction earlier. Sat nav didn’t pick up closed junction.

We had a few hours to visit the centre and/or buildings. City centre is poor and poverly. We found almost no restaurants - and only then open after 19.00 hrs.....on reservation. For resting place it is ok - (distance south/north) but there are more interesting places. The restaurant we found (Le Tandem) was extraordinay good.... We could walk from our hotel tot the city centra in 10 minutes.

Although we stayed over a Sunday and very little was open, we discovered the amazing viaduct and walked around the historic centre. A visit to the Charles de Gaulle Monument and Museum not very far away is a must!

A nice little town centre, typically French. Had a Croque Monsieur and a couple of drinks seated on the pavement of a local pub, winding down after a long drive from Calais. It's a shame a lot of the restaurants don't start serving meals until 7o'clock.

Charming and very atmospheric place to stay. Old house, nicely decorated, bedroom window looks at the forest-like place, looking wild. Hilly surroundings, this is why the garden where we had nice breakfast located on the 3rd floor. Welcoming and kind host. Combined with the evening walk through Chaumont (that pleasantly surprised us), this turned 'a place to sleep 1/2 way home from the south of France and leave early morning' into very special experience that we will remember.

Lovely comfortable studio apartment, perfect for our one night stop over. Vincent gave us lots of information before and during our stay. Breakfast delivered to the studio at our requested time, good choice of food. Easy walk into Chaumont for an evening meal, choice slightly limited but it was a Sunday. Would recommend and would stay here again.

Good hotel in Chaumont, which is a good stopover location if travelling across France to the Alps. Rooms are comfortable, good breakfast and excellent dinner in the restaurant. Receptionist made us welcome (with our dog, too), as did the restaurant manager. We had to change our booking dates, but this was done without extra charges.

Dog-friendly, family-run hotel a stone’s throw from the station and the cultural centre, and not much further from the town centre. Our room was large with an armchair and a desk chair. The shower room and WC were separate. Everything was spotless. Good parking. Breakfast was very good indeed - Continental, but with several choices.

We like most the location of the hotel so peaceful and we loved the sounds of the bell from the chapel beside. The owner/receptionist, he was so kind, approachable and attentive to client. The rooms are big.
