Perfect location for exploring this part of Normandy and as a base for learning more about D Day and the allied invasion of Europe. Principal museum excellent (opposite La Marine hotel). Parking is off site and in public locations (either car park or on side roads) but this was manageable. Village can get busy with coach visitors etc but not a problem. I would say it is an ideal location for a 2/3 day stay and, having visited Courselles and Port en Bessin during our stay, we were very glad to be away from the sights, sounds and smells of working fishing ports!

Very pretty village, at the centre of WWII history.
Very pretty village, at the centre of WWII history. Beautiful beach and very interesting museum focusing on the Normandy landings and particularly about how the allies got the huge floating harbour across from England, having spent two years building it in secret. The remains of this majestic harbour stand just off the coast, and some lie on the beach and can be walked around when the tide is out.

Arromanches is a lovely, compact seaside town, located in the Gold Beach sector of the D-Day landings. The excellent museum has a particularly detailed description of the artificial harbour built by the allies in the days after D-Day, parts of which can still be seen from the town.
There are plenty of good restaurants, cafes, creperies and ice cream shops - we ate in a different place each evening and were always pleasantly surprised by the modest prices.

Great central location for a DDay visit.
Great central location for a DDay visit. Wonderful beachside villas, super beach. Worth going for walk when the tide is out to get up close to remnants of the artificial harbour.
Oddly enough, we didn’t get a single decent meal in Arromanches even though we tried 4 different restaurants. Best food was croissant for breakfast from the boulangerie.

Really nice and probably underrated village that doesn't seem to be on the tourist radar. Has everything you need, though beware of course the only grocery store closes very early particularly on Sundays.

We based ourselves at Arroplace while visiting the D-Day beaches and museums. The two truly outstanding features were: the location, right in the heart of Arromanches and with a fabulous sea view; and Jacques, the host, who made us feel completely welcomed, and was always on hand with useful advice. If we ever return to this part of Normandy, we will book Arroplace again in a heartbeat!
The property and rooms are quite quirky and old fashioned in style but the bed was very comfortable and there was plenty of hot water.
The location is perfect, a few minutes walk from the centre of lovely Arromanches,
This was the cheapest & best hotel of my trip, great staff, clean & comfortable room, great restaurant - best Calzone I've ever tasted, fab brekfast. Really cool interior decor and places to relax.
