We chose to stay at Parador de Carmona for its historic beauty—instead we were left shaken, upset and appalled by one of the most distressing and dangerously mismanaged experiences we’ve ever had at a hotel. During our stay three of us were trapped in the hotel’s elevator for 40 minutes in the middle of summer. The elevator was extremely small, and it quickly became hot, airless and stifling. There was no ventilation—none of us could feel any airflow, and there were no visible vents. Even more disturbingly: None of the buttons functioned. The emergency call system failed completely: the intercom did not work, the emergency button was unresponsive, and we were entirely cut off. If it hadn’t been for one of us barely getting cell reception, the hotel would not have even known we were trapped. This isn’t just an inconvenience—it’s a critical and dangerous violation of basic safety standards. To make matters worse, when we begged the front desk clerk and the maintenance man to call emergency services, they REFUSED! They would only call the elevator company’s after-hours dispatch line, despite the dispatcher saying she could not guarantee when a technician could arrive from another city. The hotel staff’s refusal to involve emergency responders, despite a clear life safety situation, is not only negligent—it’s inexcusable. We were clearly in danger, but the staff seemed more worried about avoiding damage to the elevator than the health and safety of their guests. Once freed, there was no apology, no gesture of goodwill —not even a glass of water. When we inquired politely at checkout about a possible small discount in light of the ordeal, the same hotel clerk mocked my husband, spoke disparagingly about him to her other female coworker, and created a scene in front of other guests. Her behavior was deeply unprofessional and humiliating.

Clean, near the main attractions of the town. Easy walk to the cathedral, restaurants, castle. Parking nearby but might be trickier during peak times.

The house had a great feel - it was well decorated and charming with beautiful features. It was light and spacious and the roof terrace was special - we could have a morning coffee sitting up there and it was just perfect.

Stayed at the top of the old hill town but made full use of the more modern section at the foot of the hill. Great place to walk around at any time of the day with some stunning architecture. Some streets a really tight squeeze for driving but overall a delightful place. Convenient, too for trips into Seville by car or by train from Brenes.

This is an interesting little town.
This is an interesting little town. There's a lot of history to learn so take a guided walking tour. It'll only cost you 1 euro. The food at the parador was delicious. Caveat Emptor, the bar Bar Goya served us a ration of Spanish tortilla and charged us 10 euros, it usually costs less than 3 euros anywhere else.

A very interesting old town and plenty to look at for a day or two. The streets are very narrow, many too narrow for cars but those that are wide enough have too many cars going along them - not compatible with pedestrians! Pedestrians also have to contend with lots of animal (dog) faeces left lying around, despite signs everywhere saying it is is an offence not to clear up after you animal.

A small, very walkable town.
A small, very walkable town. Great views from the town walls across the region. Huge amount of history (5000 years of continuous habitation) and a truly excellent town museum that makes sense of that history.
The Roman cemetery is astonishing both for its scale and its quality - and is free to visit.
We stayed in the town on a Friday evening and were disappointed by the lack of night-life bars/cafes/bistros, although this may just be because we were there on a cold April day.

Recommend walking tour that includes old town, the Puertas, parador (just for the views) and necropolis. Also a great town for just wandering - it's not too big so you can't get lost, but plenty to see.
Lots of free parking, try to the right of the Puerta de Sevilla. There's usually someone who'll direct you to a space (give him a euro!). A really friendly town - everyone will smile back at you.
Lots of good restaurants and bars. Best is Cervecería San Fernando - if you fancy a special meal with excellent service, go upstairs and sit in the window. Amazing food, about €60 for two - salad, artichokes with ham & Pedro Ximénez, revuelto with langostinos and ham, two desserts, wine and coffee (too much really but it was a special treat!). Excellent service. Doesn't look special from the street, but definitely worth it.
Restaurante de Paco near the Puerta de Sevilla has excellent breakfast of Mollete with tomato and oil, good coffee and fresh orange juice for €5.60.
El Tablao in the main square (San Fernando) is great for people watching and relaxing with delicious cheese and a glass of wine.
The ice cream place on the main square is also worth trying if you have a sweet tooth.
Recommend walking tour to include old centre, parador (just for the view), gates and necropolis/amphitheatre.
Amazing experience during Semana Santa with procession every evening and fantastic atmosphere. Whole town seems to come out into the streets.

A delightful old city with lovely buildings in the historic centre. It is set on a hill overlooking the plain and has been an important centre since the neolithic period. It was a Carthaginian centre in the millenium before the current era, then a Roman city, then settled by the Visigoths, before becoming the centre of an Arab kingdom and finally being the favourite city of Pedro the Cruel in the 14th century. Pedro also known as the Just built his palace one the site of the Arab Alcazar. It has a very well organised and laid out museum with very good clear labelling in Spanish and English. We found an excellent restaurant La Yedra a stone's throw from the Parador.

Beautiful property with great rooms and a fantastic view. Breakfast was amazing with a huge selection of fresh fruit, bread and cooked option etc. We had a slightly disappointing experience with the food at our evening meal in the hotel but nevertheless still enjoyed the evening in beautiful surroundings.

I was very impressed with the view from my room ( I could stare out across the plains forever) and the size of my room. The room itself was beautiful and had just enough of the comforts that I need to make me feel welcome. The location of the hotel was great to set off by foot and explore Carmona.
