Surrounded by the sandy Costa Blanca beaches and the crystalline waters of the Mediterranean Sea, Alicante has a rich heritage built over thousands of years. Alacant (as it's known in Valencian) has a deep history ranging from the first tribes that arrived at the slopes of Mount Benacantil to Greeks, Romans and Moors. Nowadays, this modern city features a bustling harbor, great Spanish nightlife, charming old streets and modern beach resorts.
Overlooking the city from the top of Mount Benacantil, the Castle of Santa Barbara was built during Islamic rule in the 9th century. Cascading down the slopes towards the center of the city, L'Ereta Park has terraced levels that offer stunning panoramic views of the city. The remains of the ancient Roman town of Lucentum are also just a few miles away.
Barrio de la Santa Cruz is the historic quarter, featuring narrow streets, old houses and cobbled steps. Framed by palm trees and covered with a snaking pattern of white, red and blue tiles, the Explanada de Espana is considered one of Spain’s most beautiful promenades.
After arriving at Alicante Airport, indulge yourself in a resort near San Juan beach, or enjoy the view of luxurious yachts moored at the marina from a cozy B&B: Booking.com has the perfect spot for you to discover the magic of Alicante!

Barbara Castle: walk up or get a lift (€3, over 65's free), historuc, good views. City walking tour by locals brought us to old town places we would have missed. MUBAG Art Museum had a Dali exhib, Portraits in a lovely old building. Trams are great for Costa Blanca beaches. Good bus services. Trains to Murcia. Music @ Teatro Principal as a Jazz festival was on (April). Very good restaurants - fish & seafood eg Dorada / Bream, Prawns; Tapas - we were happy with all our meals.

Lovely city.
Lovely city. Old town very compact with great restaurants and a nice buzz about the place. The beach is lovely with nice beach restaurants and bars dotted along that were reasonably priced.
Easy to get to/from airport by bus.

Lovely city close to the beach and marina.
Lovely city close to the beach and marina. Tourist attractions such as Santa Barbara Castle and The Ocean Race were free.
The Castle is well worth visiting, with wonderful views of the city and sea. I was disappointed that the toilets were filthy and lacking basic amenities such as toilet paper and hand dryer. There's a fee of €2.70 for the lift. However, I would have preferred to pay a small entrance fee and have clean toilets. There's a nice cafe at the top with great staff.
I would not recommend Alicante for solo travellers. It's very couple or groups orientated and the staff in restaurants are not friendly for lone travellers.
I also found food and drink prices very expensive.

Alicante is a lovely city and you even have a decent beach so it really is the best of both worlds. Good tram system. 45 mins to Benidorm and also 2.5 hours to Valencia for any other day trips outside of Alicante.

A city full of history with many interesting places to visits.I recommend the two Arts Museums and a visit to Santa Barbara Castle for the views.La Esplanada is great for a stroll and a drink at night.I ate out every day in a different restaurant and found the food choices varied and good and reasonably priced,I usually eat Spanish food on holiday but also had dinner in a Moroccan restaurant which was excellent. There is a wide variety of other types of meals available to suit all tastes.Used the C6 bus from and to the Airport. It runs regularly(I caught one at 6am to the airport)and costs 2.80 euros although as a pensioner I only paid 1 euro. The only thing I would warn about are the pavements. They are quite uneven in some places especially the older streets and I nearly took a fall.A lady passing warned me to keep an eye on where I was walking and I followed her advice safely for the rest of my visit.

My 2nd night there I was jumped by 2 black males.
My 2nd night there I was jumped by 2 black males. My phone was stole and left very shaken. The police were absolutely useless. No help what so ever. My phone had all my details on it and was very important to me. I was able to supply the IMEI No. To trace it but Police said NO we don't trace But if we find it we will contact you.. Sat in the Police station for ½day for no reason. Very dissapointed..
Other than that, the town itself is absolutely beautiful, very well priced, stunning views e.t.c , my horrendous start to the holiday wouldn't stop me going back but I definitely will be taking better precautions.
I recently stayed at the La Lonja Hotel in Alicante, Spain and I was very impressed/shocked that The hotel was very clean and well-maintained. The staff was super friendly and helpful and the rooms were comfortable. The breakfast looks delicious but I had only drank a cup of coffee, anyway there was a great selection. The location was great for sightseeing and exploring the city. The hotel also provides complimentary Wi-Fi.I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a wonderful stay in Alicante.
Modern, clean hotel with pleasant staff. Spacious restaurant with TVs. Location slightly out of the city centre which may not suit everyone but a 20 min walk or bus/taxi was fine. There is a working suburb just inland with local bars and shops which will appeal to those who want to explore something off the beaten tourist track. The coastal park and beaches south of the city might be worth a look too (we didn't have time). Would definitely stay there again if back in Alicante.
Good modern hotel with comfortable beds and great location!
If you are coming to Alicante by car you can park it in Parking Plaça Sant Cristòfol (2 min walk) with whom the hotel has a price agreement. The receptionist will stamp your parking ticket and you can then pay with a little discount at the parking itself.
PS: I really recommend you to have your breakfast at Sip and Wonder Coffee House! About a 5 min walk from the hotel.
Both gentlemen at the front desk were cheerful, welcoming and helpful with directions. This urban hotel is an older building with character. We were only 3 floors above city traffic but the street is narrow and not overly noisy. I have discovered that beds in Spanish hotels are not as comfortable as in the US or UK. They ranged from extra firm to hard. but this one was second best of the 6 hotels we stayed in Spain.
Probably the best hotel in terms of price and performance that Alicante has to offer.
Pleasant quiet and nice stay. Clean hotel, but it is clearly not a 5 star luxury hotel with all inclusive, more for younger people who want to be centrally located. The center is right outside the hotel door!
Otherwise, clean, nice, air-conditioned rooms. Nice service and all in all an excellent stay.
Gladly again
I had an amazing time at Eurostars Centrum Alicante. The staff was helpful and kind, the room was clean and comfortable, and breakfast was very good, offering a wide range of options for any taste. The hotel is situated at 5 mins from a bus stop which is very well connected with airport and other parts of the city, and it is a 15-min walk from the city centre. I definitely recommend it!
Location was the most important aspect when searching for Alicante accommodation & Balmis delivered fully . We wanted the Spanish feel to our break so chose apartment rather than hotel - the apartment gave us just that . A 5 minute stroll from both the City Centre & the harbour front but on a quiet peaceful square . A choice of places to eat beyond all expectation .
We love the Hotel Maya. It is our go-to city break hotel in Alicante. We love to travel on the tram, which is so close, into the city centre and soak up the atmosphere. This trip we stayed close to the hotel and discovered the Barrio Virgin del Soccoro, a street full of restaurants which brings you right onto the beach and a mirador. Perfect for people watching.
The staff was polite and helpful, and that is very important to us. Although the hotel is located in the centre, there is no noise coming from outside (we could therefore enjoy sleeping without destructions). The room has plenty of space and the facilities are quite new. We definitely recommend La City Mercado for your stay in Alicante.
Friendly staff who speak decent English, something which is rare in Spain.
Location is also fine, close to both the beach and the city center. The tourist information is just around the corner, which is also convenient.
The breakfast was also nice, a lot of choice and good quality of food.
Excellent view: The best view on the Alicante City with the premium room, Breath taking. Location excellent: close to the city centre, to the beach, shop and tram. Room: very comfortable, spacious, clean, very good aircon, clean, comfortable beds. I cannot say more, very good wifi.
This is a very well-located (on the beach) hotel, with excellent staff, large, clean room and good facilities. Alicante is a lovely town, especially this time of year (January) when it is warm, but quiet. Bus links (21 andf 22) from the central station are excellent.
A large comfortable bedroom with a good en-suite facilities. Our room overlooked a beautiful square which was an added bonus. The hotel is near to the marina in Alicante with a lovely promenade walk. Public parking nearby but a 5 minute walk with the cases.
We went to Alicante for the bonfires of San Juan and this hotel was a great place to stay. The staff were very friendly and helpful with advice on where to go for the best views. Hotel is close to the city centre and not too far from the beach
Breakfast was plentiful and varied.
We had adjoining rooms
Proximity to the beach was excellent
Pool area was beautiful
Staff in all areas of the hotel were courteous and friendly
Proximity to Alicante city was accessible by tram or bus
Beautiful boutique hotel close to the beach and restaurants. Alicante is a beautiful city to the visit and the proximity of the hotel to everything was great. Rooftop was wonderful too for a late afternoon cocktail to relax.
Cute little hotel in the heart of the city center. Nice rooms with super good beds, toilets really updated with cool decoration. Staff was very nice and also our room was cleaned everyday, which was a happy surprise :)
