Plzen is a typical city from the former Austro-Hungarian empire with it's architecture being typical of the period. However one thing sets it apart from the many others in the region. This is the home of Pilsner Lager! The pilsner Urquell brewery dominates the town and the brewery tour is a must. I've been on lots of brewery tours around the world and thought I knew how beer was made, but this place has few surprises and taught me a few things I didn't know about my favourite beverage.
The city centre is easy to get round by walking, and all the bars and restaurants are located near or just off the large main square.
Most of the restaurants serve traditional Czech fair with stews, sausages, meats and dumplings being served.

Plzen is a lovely place to visit, if you have the choice choose here rather than Prague as it's friendlier and has a great brewery. Trains and buses from Prague don't take too long, are frequent and are really good value for money. Visit Zach's Pub while you're here for great beers and lots of stuff on the walls to look at.

Beautiful old town with lot of great pubs, cafes, bars.
Beautiful old town with lot of great pubs, cafes, bars. Lot of attractions to visit, main one being the breweries (Pilsner, Gambrinus) of course. Visit 2nd largest synagogue, many churches, theatre. We had lunch U Mansfeldu and dinner U Salzmannu. Both great vibe, tasty food, friendly staff and great beer. We only stayed 1 night, I’d recommend at least 2 nights to stay.

Plzen is a very calm and quiet place.
Plzen is a very calm and quiet place. I did not see many people on the streets which surprised me. You feel safe there. Nice, clean streets, beautiful façade buildings, polite waiters - a pleasant place to spend your time. The public transport is very punctual and you can buy your tickets inside from a machine by card- simple and easy.

But what really makes this place stand out is the friendly people. They are knowledgeable about the local area and can recommend places to visit and things to do.
Overall Plzeň is a great place to stay. It offers a unique experience for beer lovers and has a warm and welcoming atmosphere.

I would say 2 days and 2 nights is enough to go around the city and visit the main attractions, you can literally walk everywhere. If you don't speak czech, at least half the places have english speaking staff. Try to avoid the fancy restaurants in the city centre and go try some local food outside the touristy areas, have your translator in hand and order your food just pointing at the menu, staff will be very undestanding (always carry some cash as card payments are not available everywhere)

Best hotel in Plzen. The room was very well equipped and location central. Everyone at the reception was very helpful but special mention goes to Nathalie for fixing my transport to the event the whole weekend and back to Prague. Also, if you are lucky to experience the breakfast in the morning, Akhi will ensure to meet your needs with the food and coffee. His dedication to each of the guests makes the whole experience a 5 stars. I will definitely come back next time in Plzen
Such an gentle ambience to have a pleasant stay. The receptionists were so friendly and welcoming. I love the hotel. And I would happily recommend the travellers who are planning to visit Pilsen. Don’t worry Hotel Astory will be the one of the finest places to stay safe and roam around. Keep it up Hotel Astory ;)
Amazing hotel. Do not get intimidated by its external looks - inside it breathes the spirit of the 30s, first Republic era. Sunday breakfast is accompanied by a live piano play and makes your thoughts float.. Centrally placed, kids personnel, nice rooms and reasonable price - will come again!
Functional hotel and very central location. Facilities are as you expect with the exception being the breakfast room robot that collects empty plates and cups etc.
