Amazing location 20’ by foot from the train station and Coop (they pick you up by car and drive you to the hotel for free if you ask them), literally IN the forest with beautiful hiking trails starting from the hotel. Very quiet, beautiful, and wild - with the quality of a 4 star hotel.

The hotel is very good, it is cozy small hotel owned and run by a family (as we can understand). The room was small, but cozy and clean, the view from the room was perfect. Breakfast was also good (not so many types of food as you can see in some big hotels, but it was tasty and there was enough tasty food to eat).
We could not come early, so we had to ask the owners for a late check-in (after 11 pm) and they were very nice to us, so we checked in without any problems, many thanks for that!

Apart from the obvious — the incredible location, landscape and historical surroundings — Ruedihus made sure to be extra generous with all kinds of free treats: chocolates, water, an abundant breakfast, tea and cake, and access to a really good wellness area with different kinds of saunas. You really do get A LOT for your money here.

We went in late summer and walked in a different part of the surrounding mountains every day. Good cable car access to or from higher areas but also options to walk to the mountains/lakes from Kandersteg. Local buses and trains are free with the area guest pass and there is 20% off cable car fares. Several restaurants to choose from for meals and coop etc to buy picnic. Beautiful village. Only 2 hour train journey from Basel. Kandersteg tourist office website has info on many local walks with interactive maps.

At the altitude of Kandersteg, wildflowers are at their peak in early to mid June.
The place is suitable for children (the Rodelbahn), the more accomplished climbers (the Via Ferrata), and everyone in between. It's a gateway to beautiful places for hikers of various abilities, e.g. the Gasterntal, the Allmenalp, the Gemmi Pass, the Oeschinnensee, the various alpine huts. Perhaps that's why the International Scouts Centre is situated in Kandersteg.
Everything within the village is within a 10-minute walk. Anything further can be reached by hourly bus service (free with guest card).

Kandersteg is a clean and beautiful town near alpine hikes, ski areas with activities in summer, bicycling, and many other outdoor activities, all with spectacular scenery. We used Kandersteg as a place to rest with a day-hike between longer hikes in the SAC huts above tree-line, which require a lot more strenuous hiking to reach. The Oeschinensee is spectacular, and also fascinating from a geotechnical engineering perspective.

Beautiful little hamlet in the Alps with easy access by train. The views are spectacular and a cable car carries you up far above the city with spectacular views of the city and a beautiful glacier melt lake after a short hike. Most services are available in town including groceries, pharmacy, numerous restaurants, and hotels in a variety of price ranges.
This Chalet-hotel is really on a high level. located literally in the middle of Kandersteg main road.
in-front of a supermarket & 10mins walk to Oeschinensee gondola. Very nice & clean facilities. A very friendly & helpful guy in the reception, who gave me a discount voucher for the gandola, free bus ride & discount to Blausee.
bottom line - AMAZING STAY. will come back.
The location is perfect, walking distance from everything in the town and with a great view (which other hotels likely don't have this unobstructed). The staff is warm and professional at the same time, very Swiss! The room is comfortable and quiet. The restaurant is also excellent. The free parking is icing on the cake.
The apartment is spacious. The kitchen is big enough for more than one person to cook at a time. It's great to have a large entry hall for boots and packs. The location is great--just a couple minutes walk from the train station. Kandersteg is beautiful. There is a great view out every window.
Great hotel to stay in with a pet. My dog was allowed everywhere even the restaurant. Hotel is warm, clean and welcoming. Amazing location, in the town but easy access to walking trails. Restaurant next door (seems to be connected to the hotel) was really good with super friendly staff.

The staff was super nice, they were attentive and friendly. Dinner and breakfast were just lovely - it helped that it rained when I stayed there, creating a super cosy atmosphere inside the hotel. Overall, it was such a relaxing place to unwind in Kandersteg.
Hotel des Alpes and the staff were great - I had a nice room - with bathroom - all very good. The breakfast and dinner were excellent and there was a bar too. Good location - Kandersteg is wonderful area and hotel was not too far from gondola and cable car.
Conveniently located. Near Kandersteg train station and trail to the Oeschinensee cable car. Spacious bedrooms. Comfortable beds. Clean. Extremely convenient self check-in and check-out. Host is friendly and attentive. Recommend and will stay again.
The person at reception was extremely friendly and made a great start of the hotel experience.
Spa-Sauna was quite good and you can access it until late.
The local beer is excellent.
Breakfast was also amazing.
Location close to Oeschinensee.
It's a modest guesthouse, but a great base for exploring the Kandersteg and the hiking around. You get free transportation on local busses, and the owner gave me a pass for the three cable cars as well. She also gave helpful advise for exploring.
The family who run the Hotel Des Alpes was friendly and very helpful, able to accommodate some last minute changes, and the room and the breakfast were first rate. They made the stay comfortable and easy. I would highly recommend this hotel.
Room was fine, the shower poor and uncomfortable. The location excellent, close to shopping and train station.
The Hungarian staff was extremely helpful, efficient and FRIENDLY.
Will come back to the Hotel as soon as we can.
Very large apartment with a great view and location. They served an excellent breakfast with very helpful staff and had an excellent restaurant adjacent to the hotel. Also the hotel offered free and ample parking spaces.
Friendly staff, relatively spacious and clean room at quiet location. Nice view from the balcony. Free parking spots and close to many facilities in Kandersteg, including cross country skiing pists. Good value for money.
