Southern Railway Hotel Goulburn, hotel in Goulburn

Southern Railway Hotel Goulburn, formerly known as the Coolavin Hotel offers accommodation in Goulburn. Guests can enjoy the on-site restaurant. Free private parking is available on site.

I booked this hotel based on a scrutiny of other venues by using Booking dot com. I had to book a hotel because at about 4AM my car hit a roo on the highway near Collector. I was carless and 1500KM from my destination (Brisbane). I was adrift with stress and confusion because my car no longer worked (radiator, rooined... LOL... I can pun now but when I booked this hotel I was bereft of humour). I had hours to wait (I got into town at about 630AM and check-in was not until the pub opened, I think at 11AM). In the end I didn't stay the night. I used the room to organise my stress, organise my thoughts, have a nap, and organise a hire car. This is an old school pub hotel. Shared shower/toilet. It's good, honest, and basic.

Goulburn is a beautiful large country town full of history and warrants a stay rather than just somewhere to pass by on the freeway between Sydney and Melbourne. I love heritage architecture and there is a feast of beautiful old buildings and homes to take in, and the amount of historic Churches could rival Adelaide for title of City of Churches. The long main street holds many interesting shops worth a couple of hours exploring, and the park in the main street is well maintained by council staff and a lovely place to just sit and relax. There are many eateries just in the main CBD area, from cafes to restaurants, to pubs and clubs. Worth a few nights stay in the area.

Well, it's a very rural NSW town. It has some featured architecture. Its not far off the Hume Highway as an over night stay. As opposed to Wagga Wagga. If you are travelling to Melbourne Canberra or Sydney on the way..

Goulburn is a lovely place and there are lots of historical features to take in. However, not all significant places are open every day and we only found this out by calling in to the visitors' centre. Most disappointing was a historic house which was noted as open every day but, when we drove out to it, there was a noticed posted there which said they were closed on the day. The countryside is fantastic and it is very easy to get around.

Stunning! I've never been to Goulburn.

Stunning! I've never been to Goulburn. The architecture and rich history of this town is amazing. We spent most of our Saturday afternoon walking through cobbled lanes and around churches. Bellmore Park is a must see. The food in Goulburn was great, smashed avo at The Harvest Cafe and Chicken Mignon at The Diggers are must try's. Back to the Arcade was fabulous catering for our whole family and the staff were so friendly and accommodating. There's nothing I didn't enjoy about our quick trip to Goulburn. We will be back.

Great drive through country farmland out to Carrawang for a dirt-motorbike racing event, off the main road, place you'd never see unless you had a reason to take that path. Drive through Goulburn city centre had a number of nice places to each, and nice pub. Great country ambience.

Fantastic little Motor Inn with very welcoming owners.

Fantastic little Motor Inn with very welcoming owners. While it's a little on the older side, the accommodation was exceptionally well maintained and clean, and fundamentals like water pressure, bathroom, beds, pillows etc were all amazing. A great stay and would certainly stay again!

I have stayed at the Bakehouse motel a few times now and have enjoyed my stay every time. Always welcomed with a friendly smile and greeting. Room and bathroom are always spotlessly clean. Room is comfortable. I have stayed in other places in Goulburn, but The Bakehouse Motel is by far the best. When we arrived at the motel yesterday, my son said “welcome home”. And I have to agree, it really does have that homely feel. I will definitely be back 😊

The reception staff member was very friendly and helpful, he pointed out the free wifi username and password for ease of use. Check-in was smooth and check-out equally easy. Abundant parking next to the hotel which was directly across the road from the train station if you'd prefer to use NSW TrainLink services.

Breakfast at their sister hotel across the road was great. The suite was very spacious and the bathroom with the large walk in shower was a real bonus.
