There is so much to do here - three great beaches within a few minutes, superb scenery, quiet neighbourhood, great for kayaking, boating, fishing & watersports. Cygnet is only 10 minutes away via scenic sheep pastures with rustic farm huts & apple orchards & has fantastic cafes, restaurants, art galleries, clothing, souvenir and home design shops with lots of local works by Tasmanian artisans. There is a great little second hand bookshop & a jeweller with some lovely & finely crafted precious gemstone pieces. All the other essentials like a woodfired bakery, fresh produce, butchers, fuel, independant supermarkets, bottleshops & pharmacy are here. Burtons Reserve is not to be missed with its bird wildlife preserve, good kids playground, skate park & BBQ huts. You will see tons of the local black swans for which the town is named. Watch out for swan droppings! Several great wineries nearby & we also enjoyed the Tas-Saf saffron farm with their saffron gin & vodka distillery, Just outside Cygnet there is Pagan Cider set up in an old orchard shed at a cherry orchard. Further on there are spectacular views of Sleeping Beauty Mountain as you drive towards Huonville. The kids were amazed to see a woman lying on her back in the mountain. Going back the other way, it is a beaut half hour drive to the Bruny Island ferry at Kettering with more top spots to stop like Grandvewe sheep farm, cafe & cheesery & gin distillery & the quaint village of Woodbridge with ocean & Bruny Island views galore. Peppermint Bay cafe lets you soak up those views while having a Tasmanian made beverage. Definitely be back again!
