It’s located inside a larger apartment complex which airs the spirit of the time it was built. Essentials on the interior have been renovated (very nicely done bathroom, comfortable beds, large table with 6 new chairs… and the apartment, especially the (small) kitchen, is super well equipped with everything one might need). It’s perfect for 3-4 people for a week or so, and though it will hold up to 5 or even 6, that would be a bit crowded. There is free parking right outside, room for skis in the basement. Very friendly owner with great communication, clear and timely information.

Mühlbach am Hochkönig is part of a group of small towns located in the Hochkönig mountain region. There are an assortment of different restaurants that serve traditional Austrian food as well as newer cuisine.
The views from Mühlbach are exceptional. From the rolling green foothills to the alpine pasteurs to the stone-faced peaks that tower above, the scenery encourages exploration. Mühlbach thus serves as an excellent departure point for many different hiking excursions in the summer time. The bus comes and goes once per hour and drop off points make for a varied approach to the moutain hiking.
The shops close a bit earlier at 19:00. As well, restaurants generally stop serving food at 21:00. This needs to be taken into account if you get back late from a day excursion a really long hike. We had one night where nothing was open.
Having a passing knowledge and understanding of German is helpful. Some people speak English and are comfortable in speaking it. However, German is the best way to go.

The view was spectacular, but it a bit of a hike from town. The apartment is better suited to car travelers than bicyclists. There is a nice kitchen and dining area plus an amazing view from the balcony. If you prepare your meals in the kitchen, you can eat on the balcony and enjoy a great view.

The hotel was recently renovated with attention to detail. At the time of our visit (August 2022), there was a pleasant cozy atmosphere, which exceeded our expectations. The restaurant offered a varied and tasty menu of local products, including local spirits. Spacious rooms with better equipment for the given category of accommodation. Everything was clean and ready for a comfortable stay. The staff, Marek, and owners were very kind and helpful. The delicious breakfast satisfied various tastes. The cable car is 300 m from the hotel.
Great place to stay if you are on a budget. Rooms are small and older with just basic equipment but very clean and with nice views into the valley. It is 5 minutes drive to the start of the Hochkonig summit trail. Breakfast was great and there is also self-service bar open all day. There is even small wellness with pretty good sauna on the premises and good restaurant in neighboring hotel. Owners are extremely pleasant and welcoming. They will help with anything you might need and go the extra mile to make you feel welcomed.
Very nice, clean, newly reconstructed hotel. Tangible "Genius loci": Typical Austrian mountain hotel, great location, fantastic panorama views. The hotel is 3km from the village center however the bus stop is just in front of the hotel. Professional and friendly staff. Very good restaurant. The accommodation includes in summer the Hochkönig Card that provides you with useful free of charge benefits (cable lifts, bus,...). One of the best Austrian vacation we have ever experienced.
This lovely hotel is a family-run business, and the owners are very friendly and helpful. We had very nice chats and they gave such great advice on what to do/see. I got an upgrade to a bigger room with mountain views. The location is pretty convenient, close to the bus stop, supermarket and restaurants. I could catch the bus to reach the hiking trails easily. I would definitely recommend this place and would come back if I have a chance in the future.
The location is very good for climbing the nearby Hochkonig mountain, but staying in the hotel is not very pleasant. My room was very small. The bed was just awful and it was impossible to sleep on. The facilities in the bathroom were looking not good and the shower literally fell on my head while I was showering. The breakfast was very basic and limited. If I will travel to the area in the future, I will definitely avoid staying in this hotel.
Very nice staff! The food was amazing, the breakfast with lots of options and delicius homemade breads! There is a bus stop to go for ther hikings in front of the hotel. You can enjoy your time close to the nature, surrounded by beautiful farms and go to the trails very easily with the bus. The room was very comfortable and we really enjoyed our time in the hotel.
Location was absolutely stunning, if you love nature. Hotel is under high mountains, in the middle of nowhere, but I consider it as a plus, because the only noise you can hear there is nature and you can meet cows, and do some hikes. Also all staff we met were really nice and helpful. And we had delicious dinner and breakfast there. Nothing to complain.
The hotel was great, the staff very friendly and the spa area great. We had a spacious room with a balcony and mountain view. Especially the spa area was much to our liking. There is a separate family area in the wellness area, which we thought was a great idea as the actual sauna area is off limits to children and therefore very quiet.
