Pukenui Lodge, hotel in National Park

Offering a barbecue and views of the mountain, Pukenui Lodge is situated in National Park in the Manawatu Region. Turangi is 41 km from the property.

Room was clean, warm and bunk beds were fine with warm clean bedding. Shared bathroom was fine, showers were hot - they take a few mins to warm up when the place is quiet. Kitchen was clean and had everything we needed. Kids loved the lounge, open fire, table tennis and video game. We ski'd in rain all day, our stuff was drenched through however the drying room had it all perfectly dry and warm by morning.

Tekoa Lodge Raurimu, hotel in National Park

Offering a garden and garden view, Tekoa Lodge Raurimu is located in Raurimu, 20 km from Mount Ruapehu and 21 km from Taranaki Falls.

It was so Cosy. Had such a homely feel to it. 3 minute drive to a bar/restaurant , liquor store and four square shop , it is also a short drive to the slopes. Ideal place to stay if you have a large group as it can sleep up to 10 people. Out door area is beautiful, plenty of seating areas and behind the house is a lovely 300m track to a snow fed river. We had the fire roaring which heat the whole house, so warm and Cosy. We all thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We met with David the owner before we checked out and he was very pleasant to talk to. Highly recommend to check this little gem out.

Looking for a cabin?
For the active travellers, a chalet is a great mix of the outdoors and the snug inside. Usually fully furnished and self-catered, chalets are typically wooden and in the Alpine region of Europe, but can also be found elsewhere in the world. Characterised by their sloped roofs, chalets can be single units or separate apartments, and are ideal for skiing holidays.

I love how accommodating the staffs are. We had a last minute booking for shuttle rides to Tongariro Alpine Crossing but they diligently help us in securing a ride, safely and comfortably. Special thanks to the Manager, Ana, for thoroughly explaining us the trail of Tongariro. Kudos!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Alpine Chalets during our visit to Whakapapa. It is conveniently located just 20 minutes from the ski field. Mary, our delightful host, texted us before our arrival and even recommended a nearby Thai takeaway. The staff were attentive and fulfilled all our requests with a smile. While the chalets doesn't have stove, they went out of their way to provide us with cooking stoves. We highly recommend The Alpine Chalets and look forward to staying here again.

The location for starters. The area is awesome. The property was easy to find and very convenient. Our hostess was very friendly and welcoming and everything we needed was available . The property is old but very cosy. Lots of wood to keep the Swiss chalet style. It suited us well for the night.

The place has a ski chalet vibe to it - with the single rooms accessed from the outside. There is a big central restaurant with a huge log burning stove which made the whole place smell divine. The staff were helpful and the location was great. The room and bed were very comfortable and the shower was good - it was also very large and the whole bathroom was well kitted out for accessibility.

Joy (the owner) was really helpful and friendly. She even took me to a nearby hiking trail. The room was clean and the bed was comfy. Electric blanket provided. There is a big kitchen and a common area with an actual fireplace. Joy also runs a convenience store that is connected to the main corridor. If you're going for the Tongariro crossing via shuttle, the stop is on the opposite side of the road. I will definitely stay here again if I'm visiting the area.
