(Just note the house is slightly elevated so you need to negotiate up a few steps with your bags from the car porch).

At the hotel, every room has a balcony. At Rainforest Deluxe, every room comes with air conditioning and a flat-screen TV. Location is amazing surrounded by native bush and birdsong, along with a chorus of cicadas! Restaurant on site was good, very nice atmosphere. Being able to bring our small dog with us was amazing :) Nice to have complimentary wine on arrival and the basic continental breakfast that was delivered was good.

Hands down, the Old Vicarage is the absolute most enjoyable BnB we have ever stayed in. It's very spacious. It's NOT a typical kiwi motel (which we had been frequenting around the south island til then). It has an old, comfortable "relaxing in your slippers" kind of feel to it. The beautiful polished wood (pine?) flooring was a joy to behold. We arrived quite early, because of rain which forced us to decide to skip a portion of our planned route. As soon as we got there I thought, this is a LOT better than what we had planned. We started a fire in the welcoming fireplace, using the firewood supplied. We scoured the library and the movie collection, and found that we really needed to stay for about 3 months, there were so many books and movies we wanted to read/watch. The gardens are lovely (a tad less so in the rain, but still...). Overall, it felt more like home than home does. We really loved this place. Can't say that about most motels.

The property offers campground facilities, exclusive to all guests. There is a kitchen in some of the rooms, equipped with an oven. What a wonderful place to stop for the night. We stayed in one of the cabins which was compact but very comfortable. The shared facilities were fantastic, very clean with everything you need. Amazing views and 25 min hike up to the waterfall was lovely.

The property is non-smoking and is set 13 km from Arthur's Pass Train Station. The bedroom was so cozy with extra blankets, humidifier and heaters. Very homey.
