So much to do in this little town! Don't miss out on Sunday nights downtown and "Sunday School"! The folks who live there are friendly and welcoming. Fish Tobago Tours provide an amazing snorkeling excursion...I highly recommend them!
The trip to Mount Irvine was very good. When you have an excellent host, that's part of the success right there, and we certainly did. We stayed at the Tobago Hibiscus Golf Villas, and our host did everything in his power to ensure that we were comfortable and secure. If you want to go anywhere, he would call a driver who you pay his fare to take you wherever you want to go and he brings you right back. I recommend that you organize transportation beforehand as the prices for this is a bit steep. We went to Pigeon Point, took a trip out to the glass bottom boat and bathed in the Nylon Pool. The food is excellent, on or off the beach. It was overall an excellent experience
Got to Tobago after 7 pm, property is located in an area that is not necessarily easy to find or well lit. Must have waze if driving. Activities for young couples here are limited to the pool and beach usage. Tobago is a small island but you cannot walk to anything from here. If ambiance, food and in room stay is all you desire and most importantly you can afford it , this works.
The breakfast selection was by far our favorite part. They always had a wide assortment and the staff was absolutely wonderful. Any time we needed something the staff were eager to assist us. They all were very pleasant and beyond helpful. They did a wonderful job throughout our entire stay. The facility itself was stunning. We had no issues with our room or the grounds of the hotel. Our room was consistently cool with the A/C and very clean upon arrival. We would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone on a long or short trip to Tobago.
I frequent the island often, at one point almost every other month & I don't get too bored in this area. I still feel that this area of Tobago is the most exciting for the small island. It's lively, caters more to tourist, more clubs & bars. Stays open later than most other places on the island. Jenny's open outside bar with TV screens, Jade Monkeys has karaoke on Wednesday, it currently seems to be the jumping spots for clubs/ bars. Shade Night club used to be the only main spot for years. Drunken Joe's a decent mid price eatery. Kariwak is a MUST for naturalist, health addicts and/or vegans. They grow their own herbs! The food is so pure & filling! Has massages, etc. A must see. Cost a bit more than local spots still affordable & worth it 4 fancy events, celebrations etc. Lots to do in this very small section of the island. Airport is located in Crown Point so no excuse not to stop and enjoy.
Buccoo is generally a quiet resort... until Sunday nights when 'Sunday School' takes place by the beach (a mix of beer, food, steel band, super-loud DJ and non-stop dancing - a brilliant experience)! There are a few shops and places to eat. The beach is lovely and a fantastic place from which to view the stunning sunset. It's a little out of the way, so easy enough to hail a cheap taxi out, but not always as much traffic heading back at the end of a night out. There are a few other beaches a 20 minute walk away - Mount Irvine being a particular favourite, with loungers provided for a small cost and a bar/eaterie/toilet and shower facilities available. The lady who does the food at Sunday School is there too Tuesday-Friday afternoons. I couldn't get enough of her food! And the roti stand is also by the car park. Fish Tobago Guest House can arrange many trips from Buccoo, such as fishing, snorkeling, island tours, etc. as well as car hire. They're really helpful.
Great swimming beach with a good variety of smaller unique local accomadations & eating options. The north of Tobago is great to get away from the more crowded areas of the south end. If you rent a car great spot to venture from to hike or explore remoter areas.
Can't beat the views from Castara Retreats, our apartment was comfortable, the staff friendly and helpful and we enjoyed the restaurant. A short downhill walk takes you to the village and beach. There are a two or three restaurants but no fast food (yeah!). Be prepared for the walk back up the hill and stairs! Loved the surrounding nature and watching the birds from our patio. We spent a week there and enjoyed it, but splitting the week between Castara and another spot on Tobago would have been nice too. One thing, don't just bring bug spray like we did; use it! (at least from the knees down)
Castara is a lovely village on a stunning bay. The beaches are beautiful, with good snorkelling. A beautiful waterfall with a pool ideal for bathing is a short walk into the rainforest. Good restaurants, cafes, bars and shops provide a range of options for eating and drinking, with entertainment most nights in one place or another. The village itself felt very friendly and safe. In the airport, we overheard people who had been warned against leaving their resort compounds. That certainly wasn't the case in Castara: there are no gates and guards here, and we never felt anything less than safe, secure and welcome. Castara is also well located for trips into the rainforest, or for exploring the less developed, more spectacular end of Tobago.
I love Tobago, and all the other beautiful villages. But, "Castara" is paradise. The world needs more people like the people of Castara. Drop your shoulders, relax, slowdown, make eye contact, and say good evening, good afternoon and goodnight. Stop, slowdown, enjoy the lime, converse and drink a carib and stag. Great restaurants and food. Please don't ever change because I need somewhere realistic to run too. The greatest place to be.
Let's start with the big picture: the location right on the beach of Batteaux Bay looking across to Little Tobago and Goat Island is as beautiful as anywhere we have stayed in the world, and we are widely travelled. The climate was divine, a steady 29C always with a breeze. The dining area in the open air looking at that view was lovely beyond words, and breakfast was very good. Jason, the head chef, was the outstanding member of staff, cheerful, dynamic, and always ready to fix things. Our double-bed was a good size and comfortable.
Crown Point
Ideal location in the Crown Point area, a short distance from Tobago airport. A few mins from both the might nightlife street and the beaches (inc. the heritage park), but it was still secluded, in lovely grounds, and felt safe. Got a warm welcome and tour of the apartment, which generally had everything I needed. The apartment itself was modern and comfortable. A great value option if you prefer apartments to hotels.
Scarborough
It was really a home away from home or even better, the ambience was rather breathtaking with the view of the wildlife. It was calm with the essence of safety, my children enjoyed the pool. The apartment was clean and I will highly recommend anyone to stay at Tropical Apartment on their next visit to Tobago.
Castara
The room was a good size and lovely modern bathroom which was a breath of fresh air in Tobago. The air con was powerful and the views from the garden were beautiful! Communication was very quick and feel the apartment was good value.
Buccoo
We had a wonderful stay in The Nest in Tobago! Miss Juliet did a perfect job in making our stay very comfortable and unforgetable. Facilities are great, apartment is spacious and the view from the balcony is truly amazing!
Castara
Perfect location, the best place we stayed on Tobago! Really comfy, plenty of nearby food options, snorkelling off the beach right in front of the apartment - highly recommended!
Mount Irvine
Nice and beautiful apartment was very clean, comfortable, quiet. The host was exceptional and very accommodating. Will stay again when traveling back to Tobago.
The all inclusive package was worth the money. Staff was friendly, professional, and helpful.
Everything was very high quality and good value for money
The villa is comfortable and near to the beach
It was even more beautiful in person. The rooms were compact, clean and efficient. It had all you needed for an overnighter including a tea station and a mini fridge. The views were amazing during the day and breathtaking at sunset down by the restaurant on the compound. The food was pretty good and it was really convenient to have somewhere to get refreshments. The host was pleasant and friendly.
The hosts were very welcoming
Castara Retreats was the most amazing place. Our views from the Coasthanger were spectacular. We loved every moment of our stay and it ticked all the boxes we look for in a holiday. We would return in a heart beat. Thank you Porridge, Jeanell, and your team for the most wonderful time! We will not hesitate to recommend Castara Retreats to anyone looking for a quiet, relaxing holiday.
It felt as if I was the only one there. There was no disturbance of any kind. Really appreciate the fact that I got to rest, relax & enjoy my stay.
