Located 2 miles from Hosokawa Residence Gyobutei, THE BLOSSOM KUMAMOTO offers 4-star accommodations in Kumamoto and features a fitness center, a restaurant and a bar. We loved the location of the hotel, which was right next to the JR Kumamoto Station, making it very convenient to travel anywhere. There are also lots of shops and restaurants in the area. The hotel is very lovely and we thought it was very good value compared with hotels in other cities eg. Fukuoka. The service is excellent and the hotel is very clean. The public bath was lovely too. The rooms are spacious and the beds are comfortable.

Rooms, facilities, footpath, spring bath, everything is so good!

Hotel in Yufuin Onsen, Yufu
Located in Yufu, 27 miles from Oita Bank Dome, 旅館 竹屋 Takeya has accommodations with a terrace, free private parking, a restaurant and a bar. Lovely place about a 10-15 minute walk from the train station. We were there on 2 cold days in March but our room was warm with a heater and electric blankets. Very comfortable beds and an onsen in the room. We had a beautiful view out our window and in nice weather it would be lovely to sit outside but not on this visit. You eat downstairs in a pleasant dining room. The 2 dinners were fabulous and well prepared but we couldn't eat much of the breakfast (it was all Japanese), other guests loved it. But on the second day the cooks made us a delicious breakfast that kept us going all day. The owner is very helpful, he cares a lot about his guests, he's still working on the place and it will be really nice when it's done.

I didn't have time to travel around Fukuoka although I was there about two years ago I only managed to spend an afternoon in Nagasaki City. I would love to travel to more places in Kyushu and go back to Yufuyin. Will surely consider visiting Fukuoka again.
We weren't really there long enough to pass judgement properly, the stop being intended simply to provide some rest after long flights and to collect our Japan Rail passes from Hakata station. The central area seemed a little bland, but I understand that areas towards the sea are slightly more picturesque. The railway station served its purpose for us however, even if the appropriate booking counter was tricky to find (enter by the taxi rank, walk almost to the end of the corridor in front of you and the JR desk is towards the left hand side of the ticket office on the right). We also had a very pleasant lunch at Yoshizuka Unagiya, A restaurant specialising in eel. It might have been tricky to find, so we found it useful to arrive by taxi, particularly given our limited time in the city. It is a little unassuming from the outside, but climb the stairs and put your name in the waiting list, and the experience will be well worth it. If I returned to Japan I think I would allow slightly longer in the city, particularly given its reputation for some of the best food on Kyushu, but it served its purpose well for us.
It's suitable for long/short stays if you want to explore Kyushu island and Honshu Island. There are plenty of attractions in Khushu island depend on what period of the year. It's good to get free entry to several places.
Standard, not-Tokyo major Japanese city featuring many of the famous restaurant and shop chains from the capital in addition to its own unique and homegrown restaurants and shops. Not really a luxury destination but definitely an excellent base for day trips around Kyushu, with a simple subway system and high speed trains for farther places as well.
Fukuoka and Kyushu regions are less urban areas with nature, onsen spa and good seafood. This also means the train networks are less extensive than Tokyo. Renting a car will let you see a lot more of Fukuoka and it's neighboring prefectures.
We are traveling in the whole Kyushu. Fukuoka has very good food but there are more unique places and landscapes to see outside of the city. After all, Fukuoka is just another Japanese city to me.
We were lucky that we visited during what appeared to be sale season (end of July to first week of August). We got a lot of Japanese brands on sale (some clothes were at 70%off, plus another 20% discount, plus around 8% tax refund for tourists). The highlight for us was Dazaifu, particularly the Kyushu National Museum, which then had the Lascaux cave paintings exhibit.
Kitakyushu is first and foremost an industrial city, and I would not recommend it for tourism, at least not if that’s the main purpose of one’s trip. If one really wanted to do some tourism in Kitakyushu, I’d recommend taking several factory tours available in the city to get a closer look at the industry. Also, the food in the city is quite good and very cheap compared to elsewhere in Japan, so enjoying some Japanese cousine at a restaurant in the evening is a good way to spend your time and money while there.
As the site of the second atomic bombing of a city Nagasaki is an historic place to visit. But there is much more to the city than a history of its destruction. Nagasaki was for two centuries Japan’s only window to the West and as such it is a fascinating place to visit. The atomic bomb museum and the Hypocenter Park at the spot under the bomb’s aerial detonation are sobering experiences, as they should be. The (former) island of Dejima was an artificial island where all foreign traders were islotated, first Portuguese the Dutch. It is now inland, surrounded by reclaimed land but the buildings have been painstakingly reconstructed and the area is an interesting view to the past. The ropeway to the top of Inasa-Yama gives one a spectacular view of the city and harbor and south to the ocean. I would recommend going there near sunset and staying for the emergence of the world-class night view. The Nagasaki Museum of History and Culture tells a good story of the city’s relationship with the West and it’s influence on the rest of Japan. There is a reconstruction of the Magistrate’s office that is beautiful. Gankanjima Island is a short boat trip from the city. It is an abandoned mining island which once had thousands of occupants but was abruptly deserted when the mine closed. It was the setting for a scene in the James Bond movie, “Skyfall.” All in all Nagasaki is well worth a visit. Public transportation is outstanding and it is also a good walking city. If you are on Kyushu plan to go.
I was shocked at how many restaraunts/ Izakayas there were! Spoilt for choice. I did also enjoy to easy access to Kita-Kyushu from Yukuhashi.
Comfort Hotel is now my preferred hotel chain in Japan, this is second time in an hotel from same chain and again it exceed our expectation. Amazing value for money: good location close to many restaurants, clean and functional rooms, nice breakfast (not exceptional but good enough with decent choices for both japanese and western taste), this hotel in particular is brand new and bathroom are very modern. Hotel has also laundry (again brand new machines! ultra efficient) which is very convenient for a family like us travelling in Kyushu.
We asked airport shuttle bus, how to get back to Kyushu airport to the staff. They were very helpful in writing, and drawing the map for us. Because we were very confused about which bus terminal number we should be in! They spent roughly 30 minutes to convince me, which is a great deal. Thank you so much! The curry at night and in the morning, I liked the potato especially, were lovely. Soothing the tummy of tired tourists!
The breakfast was exceptional and was much more than expected. A nice touch was the sparkling wine. The variety and quality of food was excellent. We also enjoyed a boat ride in the early evening, which leaves just outside the hotel. The Captain was great and he took time after the ride to answer some questions. We enjoyed the walk through the underwater tunnel that connects both sides of Kyushu and Honshu Islands.
Hotel is just a short stroll away from the train and bus stations, with their links to other parts of Kyushu. We didn't spend much time in the hotel, staying just one night in what was little more than a stop-off in Fukuoka, so can't really say much about it, other than that our room was clean and comfortable, though functional more than stylish, and that English-speaking staff were friendly and efficient.
Taketa
The staff is incredibly nice and accommodating. Me and my wife absolutely loved staying at this traditional Japanese house. And although traditional, the house is very well renovated, comfortable, and clean. The room was cosy, the bed was very comfortable, and the breakfast was delicious. I intend to return to Taketa while travelling around Kyushu and I will definitely stay again at this Hostel Cue!
Kumamoto
Amazing design. Great attention to details. Very unique property in a historic Japanese home with all the modern necessities and wonderful design. You can tell the owner put a lot of thoughts in designing the amazing interior. Also the person who greeted us was very nice and helpful, level of service definitely on par with a four star property. It was one of the highlights of our stay in Kyushu.
The dinner was simple and good. We had Pork shabu... and a small buffet breakfast that was good.. a mix of western and japanese.. So its good to book with dinner and breakfast. Hotel is just 2mins walk away from a big drug store that sells everything... .glad I chose this hotel.. as i only needed a place to rest and stopover for my long driving trip from west to east of kyushu.
Nichinan
This was an entire, traditional Japanese house with all the necessary facilities for a very comfortable stay. Nichinan is a very good base to explore the wild southern coast of Kyushu and is very close to the old samurai village of Obi where there are still many historic buildings. Our hosts were very friendly and referred us to some excellent local restaurants.
Fukuoka
The hostel was actually better than I expected. Especially, the location is awesome - 3 minutes from Gion subway station and a 10-minute walk from Hakata station. And you can take JR trains at Hakata station to explore Kyushu! The hostel is super clean, and the beds and blankets are comfortable enough for a relaxing stay. I will definitely go back!
A classy hotel within easy walking distance of the Kokura Shinkansen station and the convention center. The rooms are nice and clean, with plenty of amenities and a beautiful view of Kitakyushu. The breakfast buffet is excellent, with both Japanese and Western offerings. The room service dinner options were also tasty and very decently priced.
The staff team were helpful, polite, and kind. They helped us book parts of our trip which can only be done in Japanese. The room was clean, modern, and comfortable. The hotel is centrally located around Kyushu University and there is a very nice restaurant and a 7-11 right across the street. Plenty of parking spaces are also available.
New, clean, large and spacious. The bunk beds were cool and a hit for our family of 4. Convenient washer and dryer feature in the bathroom made drying clothes quicker. 7-11 was across the street. Checkin was on a tablet but someone is there to assist you if you need help. One of our favorite hotels on our Kyushu vacation.
This was one of the more posh looking hotel during our stay in Kyushu. It is located in a shopping mall that's a short bus ride from the Kumamoto station. It's within walking distance to the Kumamoto castle. They provide amenities like different bath salt that can be used. Staff was polite and friendly.
The hotel receptionist is nice and helpful. The bathroom is large and clean. The hotel location is very close to Exit East 7. The exit is right under the Miyako hotel that next to JR Kyushu. It takes a minute to this Exit and you could get through this exit to the Subway and JR station within 5 minutes.
Beppu
The most satisfying stay we had during our trip in Kyushu. Everything is well prepared in the apartment. We all slept well and soundly during our stay. Very near to the Jigoku. Yummy BBQ just a stone throw away. A worthwhile accommodation if you want to stay overnight in Beppu. Highly recommended!
One night stay before taking the next morning flight. Location close to Hakata Railway station. other than that nothing else to say. Did not have time to get breakfast. Similar to the JR Kyushu Hotel in Nagasaki where we stayed before coming to Hakata/Fukuoka. Reasonably good.
Beppu
The staff are excellent . The location is best one in Beppu . The hotel room is outstanding. The dinner and breakfast are excellent too. A good quality and well designed hotel . It is the best hotel to stay in Beppu and likely best in Kyushu. I highly recommend
Breakfast was a good portion, and there was convenient transit both into Fukuoka proper and to Kyushu University, which I was visiting for work. Plenty of restaurants in the neighbourhood to get dinner at as well. The price is very competitive and affordable.
I had already some sort of expectation upon my stay with JR Hotels. Again, it impresses me as well during my stay in Kita-kyushu. The hotel is connected itself to the train station bldg. How much convenient could that be. Room is capacious and I love it.
Minami Aso
A wonderful stay in a traditional Japanese guest house. Clean, comfortable and spacious with stunning views of the Kyushu mountains. The hosts were very friendly and welcoming. The barbecue is not to be missed. Exceptional value all round.
