Colosseum
The fights! The glory! This iconic arena specialized in gory ends. Built in the 1st century, it held up to 80,000 spectators who came to witness gladiatorial combat and bloody reenactments of naval battles. When you look up at the stands, it doesn’t take much imagination to hear the deafening roar of the crowds or to picture the fierceness on display.

Colosseum & Forum were amazing but tickets were sold out by the time we went to book them. We could have signed up for a tour but they were pricey and we prefer to walk around on our own time and not be stuck with a group. A great alternative was signing up for a ParCo membership (CoopCulture website). More expensive than the regular tickets but cheaper than a tour and we got inside the Colosseum first thing in the morning. Just go to the lineup for ParCo members and they'll direct you to the ticket counter where you get your passes which is good for 1 year.

Absolutely book a skip the line tour ahead of time.
Absolutely book a skip the line tour ahead of time. Be sure and book the guided tour that includes the Colosseum, the Underground, The Roman Forum and the Palatine Hill Tour. It will take about 4 hours but worth every minute!

HUGELY IMPRESSIVE...but be prepared to walk to access it.
HUGELY IMPRESSIVE...but be prepared to walk to access it. Bus stops are reasonably near but the main road is higher and access is only fair if you have walking difficulties.
The size of the Coliseum is impressive and obviously once at the foot of the foundations it is even more impressive. We did not go in so cannot comment of interior...we felt we had seen enough just by walking all the way round it.

Loved it.
Loved it. If you want to look down from the middle level of the "seating" area be prepared to climb a few flights of stairs. The stairs are also steep. That said, it was worth it. Bring water when you tour the forum and the colosseum. Hold onto your valuables when in outside the immediate monument/archaeology area.

Our Uber was late therefore we were a few mins late.
Our Uber was late therefore we were a few mins late. When we arrived, the contact folks shuffled us thru the gate with no connection to the group. We never were connected to the group. When we tried to speak to someone we could not get our tickets to pull up so we were asked to leave.
Waiting to see if we receive refund we were promised.

Very convenient location, walking distance to several touristy sites such as the Colosseum, The Forum and the Circus Maximus. It is also located nearby a metro stop which made traveling to other areas in Rome, very easy. It's a small apartment but its clean, cozy and had all the necessary amenities such as hot water and WiFi.
I liked how spacious is the room and the modern design. I also liked the terrace that it is has, perfect for a cup of coffee in the morning. Close to the colosseum only 15 min walk. There is a supermarket close to the apartment.
a wonderful place, the room spotless, quiet, bright, close to the Colosseum and all the important monuments of Rome in a few hours you can visit comfortably, Trevi Fountain, Phanteon, Spanish Steps, simply walking without getting tired, the professional owners available for tourist information and all needs 'The apartment is beautiful with a personalized style .come back will be a pleasure A very safe area by day and by night
We absolutely loved Diana’s apartment! She is such a wonderful and considerate host. We wished we could have stayed longer to enjoy all the small touches she puts in to making each stay special and comfortable. Perfect location to the Colosseum! Extremely clean and beautiful space :)
This is a no frills hotel. But we came to see Rome, not worry about hotel luxury. The staff was very helpful and helped us set up a hop off hop on bus tour which is highly recommended. The best part is they have a great breakfast! The location is very good, about a mile from The Colosseum. Everything else was great.
Again, we stayed here for the great value and it met our expectations. If we come back we would stay here again.
10-minute walking distance to the colosseum, and close to the ATAC bus route, this hotel is one of my favorite places. Francesco and his crew are the BEST hoteliers I have ever met. They anticipate your every need, answer all questions and solve any problems with a smile. They were warm and welcoming the minute we set foot on the property.
We had the garden room, which accommodates three people. The bed was perfect! The entire place was culvert clean and well-maintained, but the best feature is definitely Francesco’s hospitality!
The room is elegant, clean, everything looks brand new, and bed are very comfortable. The hotel is close to many attractions like Trevi fountain and the Colosseum.
The staff was friendly and helpful, the rooms were exquisite and very clean - the cleaning lady visited every day. The hotel offers a solid continental breakfast and a good lobby bar. The interior itself is very artistically decorated and interesting. There are also several restaurants and a few smaller markets nearby. Public transport stations are within walking distance, and the Colosseum is a thirty-minute walk away. Our stay was very pleasant, would recommend.
The apartment has a wonderful location 5 minutes from the colosseum. It is clean, modern, and quiet. The host was punctual and friendly. We were a family of 5 and enjoyed our stay there very much.

In the book store of the colosseum you can take a look at some graphic illustration(it's kinda cartoon like) overlaying on the photo of the ruins
It's amazing to walk inside the colosseum and imagine how things were few thousand years ago. In the book store of the colosseum you can take a look at some graphic illustration(it's kinda cartoon like) overlaying on the photo of the ruins. It really brings history alive when you're looking at those old stones alongside with those graphic illustration. (We actually bought that book because it's pretty cool!)

Because it's not a big city and there is so much to see when wandering between the 'big-ticket' sites like the Colosseum and the Parthenon. Walking allows you to come across the tiny pizzerias and cafes which you'd never see if you were on a tour bus or in a car.

We paid 24 Euro total for my family (children free) to gain access to the Palatino, Roman Forum, and Colosseum
I suggest visiting the city outside of the summer months. My family went during Christmas and though there were crowds, they were small. I can only imagine the lines and congestion in the summer. Also, if you really want to go to the Colosseum, get your combined ticket at the Palatino first! We paid 24 Euro total for my family (children free) to gain access to the Palatino, Roman Forum, and Colosseum. Worth it when I saw the crazy line into the Colosseum and we just walked past it all.

When going to the Colosseum, choose the Palatine Hill ticket entrance to avoid long queues at Colosseum entrance
We went second weekend of November, lucky with sunshine and temp was 20 degrees, so comfortably warm and just into their winter season so fewer tourists. Avoid visiting churches on Sundays as services in progress means restrictions. Mondays some museums closed. Get a tour guide for some things, essential for the vatican, otherwise it is a visual overload with no time to consult the info, so much better to listen as you look. Vatican is always crowded so easier to follow your guide and also prepaying means you avoid the huge queues to buy tickets. Angel Tours highly recommended. When going to the Colosseum, choose the Palatine Hill ticket entrance to avoid long queues at Colosseum entrance.
