WE went with one purpose: to see the Monarch Butterflies.
WE went with one purpose: to see the Monarch Butterflies. We were careful to plan our trip to include a sunny day as that is when the Monarchs fly around. If cloudy or overcast they tend to roost in the fir trees and just look like dried leaves. WE had a car so drove to the reserve and took the horses 1/2 way up and walked the rest of the way. The trip was very difficult and I would not recommend it to anyone who has mobility of breathing problems. We were rewarded with seeing thousands of them flying around int he sunshine. An Amazing experience. After the butterflies we returned to our hotel and the next day took it easy, having a massage and going into town to look around.
In town there is a very fine crafts museum that is well worth seeing. We stayed one additional day in hopes of visiting some nearby pueblos. However, we were told there were no pueblos so we just wanders around town for another day. We should have cut the trip to 3 days. Warning: the roads in town are narrow, steep, and cobblestone. VERY narrow and difficult to drive over. Take care.

Valle is a great place, I go often. The only problem right now is that the whole downtown area is under construction. Be aware of this before you go, I am sure once the construction work is done everything will be fine.

Nice hotel in town square.
Nice hotel in town square. Friendly staff, but be careful, someone went through our bags and took money and headphones. Manger just denied it. Police report made but no results. There is no safe in the rooms.

Such an atmospheric town.
Such an atmospheric town. Lots of lovely shops to explore and a fascinating market. The waterfalls and the butterfly sanctuary are amazing but you need to leave a whole day for the butterfly sanctuary.
We had a very pleasant stay at Don Polo CasaBoutique. Our hosts were very welcoming and attentive to what we might need during our stay. For an extra fee of $500 pesos they had kayaks available for rent which our family really enjoyed using over the weekend. The house has a lovely hammock hung between the trees where we could relax and read. We also enjoyed watching the sunset over the lagoon from the balcony while drinking a nice wine. Overall we would recommend Don Polo’s property and return again.
I really enjoyed the place, is beautiful. The rooms, the shower and all the amenities are excellent. The service is great too. They try to please you everytime. I scheduled a Spa treatment at Rodavento and they arrange a transportation service for free. They allowed our pet to be almost everywhere. During our stay there was an event at the restaurant and they allowed us to get to The roof area with her. They also offered a bed and plates for her. Free water during our whole stay and nespresso capsules.
The hotel was very near a wedding place we were going.
We could check-in before entry time, and leave our luggage in the room.
The room was a recent construction, very minimalistic deco, and super clean.
Personnel was very king and welcoming.
There was a pool we did not really used for lack of time. A big garden.
The overall environment of the hotel was very calmed and relaxed. The pool was warmed and the size made it so that you feel it's all yours. The restaurant was great, way above average for a hotel restaurant. Room service included anything in the restaurant menu and coctails.
The hotel is truly a boutique, with unique rooms and a lovely, small restaurant. Also the rooftop is wonderful with a great view of the church in the town. I wish we had more time to spend up there. The people were very helpful and even once did our laundry for us for free.
The house has a lovely mexican vibe. Place was clean and the kitchen well sorted - cooking was no problem at all. Probably the best shower I've had. All doors had password-locks witch made it very easy. The host was very friendly and accesible.
