It was really close to the bus stop and Takegawara Onsen. We loved the Beppu cold noodles restaurant called "Rokusei", which again was close to the hostel. The area around the hostel had a retro atmosphere, but the hostel itself was stylishly built. The prices were reasonable.

Great location steps from Beppu Station JR and close to many restos and shopping. Waterfront was a 5 min walk. The inhouse onsens were the highlight - outdoor and indoor AND private onsens for use. I didn't even use the shower in my room at all. Free washing. Loved the tatami all over the hotel. Staff was super friendly.

Old, tired, mold in bathrooms, no English speaking staff, over priced, breakfast almost all Japanese food and quality wasn’t very good. Don’t stay at this place unless you pay approximately $50/night.

Beppu has a great vibe, especially the area around Beppu Station and the area near the "hells". The sight of water vapour rising between all the buildings is truly something. But aside from the hells and the hot springs there is not that much more to do in the city itself. So 2-3 days should definetely be enough for people who have a limited amount of time in Japan. The city of Yufu one hour busride from Beppu and certainly worth a visit. There are a couple of other great places in Oita Prefecture worth visiting but those are a little bit hard to access without a car.

Beppu is one of the best cities I visited, it is a city is in the middle of sea and mountain. There is a lot of Onsen where you can be easy to find around the city, Beppu is called " City of Onsen".
You can relax and release any daily tired at the onsen bath (especially if you bath onsen pool outside)
Furthermore, you can go to viewpoint to see the Beppu city and mountain view.
It is a good memory to visit there.

The seven hells of Beppu (Jigoku) are really great to fill a day. You can have a nice walk along the shoreline and the mall near the bay offers a great shopping opportunity. There are a few good restaurants that you can enjoy. The neighborhood around the Jigoku is quite nice, the rest of Beppu not so much. Two or three days are enough for this town.

We didn't have enough time to see other onsen areas.
We didn't have enough time to see other onsen areas. We did not rent a car so we traveled by bus. We did not get to see the onsen areas as I did want to try some of the other ryokan onsens. The only problem I had was with the stools that you sit on to swcrub yourself.

I really enjoyed the hot springs!
I really enjoyed the hot springs! I went to Hyotan Onsen and did the hot springs and sand bath. the sand bath was a little underwhelming but the hot springs was perfect! there was also a waterfall bath which was a nice experience. the sand bath was a "do it yourself" situation where you dig a hole and cover yourself. it was nice; i recall i fell asleep. It was a little underwhelming; i would do just the hot springs again though! Also, the sand bath area was kind of small and co-ed, 7-8 rows and probably fit 4 people per row. Other than that, Hyotan had a dining restaurant and tried the cold ramen; refreshing after a nice hot dip! Getting around Beppu was easy for me. i was mostly around just the hot spring area and the area of the 7 devil hot springs (which i ran out of time and did not get to do all but was happy i got to do at least 5). the area was also kind of hilly... so one may be walking uphill a bit but no big deal, not a steep incline. Overall, Beppu was a great experience and I would come back for the hot springs as it's what the town is known for!
The hotel is directly on Beppu bay, we had a great sea view from our room and could see the sunrise. The structure is a bit dated but has various advantages including the size of the room and the bathroom (we chose the Japanese room), the comfort of the tatami, the cleanliness, the quality of the bath and onsen products, the 'private onsen for couples or families, parking. The typical Japanese breakfast is excellent and very accurate. The staff does not speak English but is very helpful and kind.
Hotel was in a great location, and within short walking distance to a great japanese restaurant across the junction, near to convenience stores too. The breakfast was sumptuous with a great spread. Staffs were very friendly, polite and helpful. Room was simple setup, but very clean and comfortable. The onsen was an indoor one, and it was a great experience. As i was driving, and searching for the parking, the staff was helpful and guiding me to the correct parking spot in the hotel premise.
This was a different experience from our usual hotel stay but one that we greatly enjoyed. Our hosts treated us with green tea. We don’t speak any Japanese and our hosts little English but we got by with hand gestures and nods. The house is over 100 years old and a bit drafty for a cold day in Beppu but a room heater kept us comfortable. An onsen was located right across from the house entrance with men and women separate entry doors. Put 100 yen in the metal box to enter.
Breakfast comes with two choices, either the international buffet or the Japanese traditional set.
Note that the Japanese traditional set only consist of sashimi and cold cuts hence may not be suitable for all.
The international buffet is very nice though.
They also have public onsen which is kind of "dated" but serves its purpose well.
Carpark is free, just need to exchange your car park ticket for a complimentary pass at the hotel reception.
This hotel is great. It is located right next to Beppu Station, that's really convenient for sightseeing. Also there is a lot of small restaurants around the place. You can choose your own pillow during check-in. Onsen for women is small, but it was pretty and clean, also there were 5 treatments for women to choose from every day and I loved their moisturizing face mask. Really good quality. Room was small, but really nice.
Very lovly traditional Japanese hotel with both Tatami and western style sitting area. Only 6 or so rooms and both in room onsen and hotel onsen(private and larger than inroom onsen). Dinner and breakfast are both excellent. We stayed for two days and the menu's are different. Staff speaks good English and very friendly. The hotel is about 20 minutes walk from the center of the he'll onsen. But the walk is very lovely.
The staff service was phenomenal! We accidentally left our bag on the public bus to the hotel and the staff quickly contacted the bus company, located the bag and had them deliver it to our room within an hour. In Japan, not every place is this resourceful or efficient so this was exceptional service. The in-room onsen and food in the hotel restaurant was also amazing. Will definitely visit again!
It was a unique and artistic experience. Was impressed by the decor and the unique building. Location was convenient to tourist attractions, however, a car is a must to this hotel. It is definitely not your typical standard hotel experience. There was a private natural onsen bath in the room overlooking the city of beppu.
- Architecture of the hotel is mind blowing. The place itself should be the attractions of Beppu.
- Room is spacious with private onsen in every room.
- Staffs are nice and friendly with high quality service.
- Food is well-prepared and high quality.
- Technology in the room is appreciative. Speaker/ Robot vacuum etc.
Booked including dinner because there aren't many restaurants near by. We did not expect to be served a 9 course Kaiseki meal. It was delicious and presented beautifully.
The rooms were spacious and very clean, with private Onsen bath on the balcony. Can highly recommend this beautiful Ryokan for a stay in Beppu.
The triple room excellent. The onsen heavenly. Breakfast different from other restaurants we’ve eaten in Japan but excellent. Daily soup great. The staff friendly and courteous. Large twin beds. Nice size room and not typical of other Japanese hotel rooms we stayed at.
Location is nice in an older part of Beppu, about 15 minute walk to central station. The owners were very friendly. Public onsen just across the road the house is Japanese style, rooms and shared toilet upstairs and shared bathroom downstairs. Overall very authentic.
This is our second time in this Beautiful hotel,
With an ocean view and very spacious and confortable room including private onsen.
Breakfast offers the best quality western and japanese food we had so far, personel is very helpfull. Strongly recommend this hotel.
very authentic and beautiful space, walkable around Beppu and close to train station. beautiful peaceful outdoor onsen and I really loved getting to pick out and wear the traditional yukata, such a lovely experience, also the breakfast was delicious
New hotel and close to Beppu Station. Less than 1 minute walk from station. When check-in you can choose a pillow and pick some amenities from front desk. Big room!!! There is an onsen in the hotel. Easy access to all area.
Next to the train station. I can see the platform from my window, quite interesting. It has an elevator. The best thing is that I can go to onsen in a nearby hotel for free.
The location was ideal - right next to Beppu train station. Very clean. Friendly staff. The room was rather small, but this is typical for Japanese hotels.
