Craigmount, hotel in Wigtown

Craigmount in Wigtown provides accommodations with free bikes and a garden. There's a sun terrace and guests can access free Wifi and free private parking.

The location was easy to find with off road parking. After dark the area around the house was well lit.It was quiet at all times of the day and night. Our breakfasts were freshly cooked, hot and Malcolm was a good breakfast host.Nicole welcomed us and gave us all the information we needed for our stay, including recommending an excellent restaurant close by for dinner that night. Wigtown is the book capital of Scotland and Craigmount is an excellent example which involves the guest in books. The house was furnished with books and there were well chosen books in the room we used that were inviting and beautifully displayed. We would readily recommend staying there especially during book week.

This family-run hotel is located in Newton Stewart, a charming Scottish town on the River Cere. With free Wi-Fi throughout and free parking on site, it is around 5 minutes’ walk from the town center.

There was no breakfast, given the price. It was very easy to go to Sainsbury's and buy some items. What an excellent base to have a look at Galloway and it was very easy to find my way around. I need to return and explore the surroundings even more.

The room was lovely - right at the front of the hotel with views over the Harbour From all our trips to different hotels this time the breakfast was by far the absolute best. Great service, lovely friendly staff, fabulously cooked breakfast. I would be more than happy to recommend for their breakfast alone. Wigtown is a stunning location to explore Dumfries and Galloway. Beautiful village with a very good choice of shops, cafes and especially book shops. Lovely architecture and places of interest to easily walk from the village. Pretty community garden in the centre of the village. Vibrant community spirit with activities, services and events posted throughout the village. Although we did not use, there appeared to be a good bus service. The locals were very friendly and offered suggestions for walks and places to visit.

It was difficult to find anywhere local to eat in the evening, a number of local pubs and restaurants have closed or are only open occasionally. On Thursday night there was nowhere nearby to eat as the local Cobwebs restaurant ( where we enjoyed an very good meal on the Wednesday) is closed on Thursday and even the chip shop was only open on Friday and Saturday night. The Bladdennoch inn nearby was open for food but only by chance as the chef was in to prepare for the weekend and served passing customers up until 7:30! A number of the shops also have what could be described as flexible opening hours - some of them were never open during our stay, which slightly spoiled our visit.

Wigtown is Scotland's official book town, as such, there are a lot of second hand bookshops and plenty of bargains to be had. ReadingLasses bookshop is also a fabulous cafe with the best cakes I have ever tried. A walk to the Marshes is a must and there are lovely walks all around, if you are looking for a peaceful respite this is a fabulous place

Wigtown is the book capital of Scotland with a great selection of shops offering new and second hand books. If you want a relaxing base then this is the place which is also a historical spot where witches were drowned in the nearby bay. Lots of other good places to visit around the Dumfries and Galloway area too.

We went to Wigtown for the Bookshops. Plenty of parking available, Wigtown was a lovely peaceful town. It was challenging finding places to eat in the evening as there were still Corona Virus restrictions in place.

What can I say. Craigmount is a beautiful, pleasant, home away from home. The owners are attentive, friendly and professional. Nicole makes a wonderful breakfast and her husband brings the banter to the table. I would highly recommend a stay over if you are passing through the beautiful town of Wigtown. The owners make you feel warm and welcome and put a smile on your face. Thank you.

Perfect for a short stay in Wigtown! Everything you need in a compact, central space. Entry through the shop was very charming. Very clean and provided all the basics needed for the stay, like washing-up liquid, a fresh sponge, hand soap, etc. etc. (It's amazing how many places DON'T provide such things!) We slept really well on the comfy bed.

A terrific stay close to the centre of Wigtown. The themed rooms were very unique, and the breakfast was smashing along with the unexpected bonus of good chat and banter between the hosts and the other guests. Wigtown is a magic place, and you can be guaranteed that Craigmount captures the same vibe that can be found throughout the town.
