Stornaway is a pleasant port town with a laid back feel and some industrial areas and parts that could do with a spruce up. The towns got plenty of supermarkets & independents too as well as plenty of restaurants & takeaways. Travelling around Lewis & Harris is best done by car, but it is possible to use the buses to visit lots of places too. Just double check your times with the drivers. The beaches are stunning!

Small historic town, that is the ideal for travelling to Harris. There are a few historic sites to see but some of them were not open when we visited. Sunday very quiet with nothing open or available to do. Great place to go for a relaxing retreat.

The shops in Stornoway were super with a good range of things to choose from. We visited the butcher, the charity shops, the deli, the new Co-op supermarket, tweed shops, Tourist Information and Taigh Ceilidh where we received a very warm welcome.

We were very lucky with the weather given the time of year. Stunning beaches and very interesting historical sites. Enjoyed eating out and had excellent meals. Really helpful information from Jessica in the tourism centre and pleasant friendly locals who were keen to share their knowledge of the islands

the hotel is fine the staff are good prices a bit high but that is standard for the island. my only problem is a slight health issue and with the very steep stairs and the rooms all upstairs i found this a problem but the hotel is ok.

Don't bother with Stornoway itself ( apart from the castle).

Don't bother with Stornoway itself ( apart from the castle). The shopping is poor and it's very difficult to eat out on a Sunday or Monday. Most restaurants are closed! SO BOOK if you can !( We don't think they want to encourage tourists!) Do go to the Black House village and the standing stones. Really interesting. We were looking for wildlife but it was minimal. We were only there 2 full days but wished we were back on Uist!!

We were absolutely delighted with every aspect of this B&B. It was easy to walk to from the ferry terminal, rooms are lovely and well appointed, breakfast was as good as one in a top hotel, and the staff were welcoming to say the least. Our only disappointment was that there were no rooms available for the following two nights we would be on Lewis, but that was our own fault for booking so late. I would stay there again eagerly and will pass the name on to friends coming this way.

A last minute stay due to cancelled ferry, but the staff were exceptionally helpful and kind (they even created a section of the restaurant for the dog to sit with us & we hear this might become a permanent policy, which is great news for those staying in the hotel with four-legged friends). We stayed in one of the newly renovated rooms, and although compact, it was spotless and done to a really nice standard. Will definitely be back again on our next visit!

The Caladh Inn was clean and nice but we had rooms with NO windows. When I booked the two rooms it said sky lights. We like sky lights and thought that was a nice added bonus. When we got there we found out there were no windows in the room - only the skylight. We weren't pleased. Otherwise the Caladh was nice. The staff were great. It was near the ferry and they had a continental breakfast very early in the morning so we could catch a 7:00 ferry.

Excellent variety of Food for both Breakfast and for an Evening Meal. The Hotel Bar was also good. Tescos is within 400 m of the Hotel. So too is the Harbour and Bus Station, where BUS NO W7, takes you to the Callanish Stones. Ferry entrance is Approximately 600 m from the Hotel. The Star Inn looks onto the Harbour, which is approximately 800m from the Caladh Hotel. Star Inn is worth a visit!

The location of the suite was perfect for walking around and exploring Stornoway. The layout was nice and the extra bedroom was useful. Google Maps does not give proper directions so when I had to call the property manager, she was very friendly even though it was late at night.

Lovely modern decor, great cooking/living area, spotlessly clean and comfy beds. Can’t say enough good things about it. 10 minute walk from town center and views across the water-loved it and such great value. If we’re back in Stornoway we’ll definitely return to Salmon House.
