Durley Dean, hotel in Southbourne

This Victorian townhouse offers bright, modern air conditioning rooms, located just 5 minutes’ walk from Bournemouth’s award-winning beach.

The family I travelled with were adults. They had a separate room. I asked on arrival for a room with a stand up shower rather than/or in addition to a bathtub. (I'd like that to be a filter on your booking format). The only room the could give me was a "family room" which was large and included a set of bunk beds we did not need. The mattress on our bed could be improved upon. The bathroom was nice but small. There was an elevator but it was very slow and tiny. The carpet went half way up the walls of the elevator and we did not feel it was very clean. The young lady on the front desk when we arrived and was on again during our stay was without any welcoming personality. Just stated what we needed to pay for breakfast and parking. My family members had a room with a tub in the bathroom. It was spacious and comfortable. They used the pool and gym which they said was very nice. We did not use any spa services. The breakfast buffet was good and the dining room staff very nice, friendly and accommodating. We had dinner there one night and it was good. The bar had a lovely big coffee machine but apparently the bar tender couldn't work it as I was told a decaff latte was possible and then it wasn't because he didn't know how. I feel for the price, the breakfast should be included and also the parking. It adds a lot to the cost especially when renting two rooms. Locationwise it's easy to get to but there are no shops or coffee shops/bakeries etc near the hotel. There was a bus tour staying at the hotel when we were there. They seemed to be well looked after. However, later in the season this could possibly make the hotel very busy. There were relatively few other guests when we were there so we had no trouble parking etc. The parking is at the back and the only way in is the front door with steps so if carrying luggage is an issue might not work well for some people.

Lovely little apartment with some fantastic touches.

Lovely little apartment with some fantastic touches. The shower and bath were awesome and it was all very clean with everything we needed. The only slight issue was the parking as although plenty of street parking was stated , there was no spaces around outside or on the seafront while we stayed so had to park quite far away. Otherwise a fab place.

Southbourne was ideal for us, away from the hustle and bustle in Bournemouth Central. Facilities on the Southbourne beach were great too with cafes, ice cream kiosks, toilets etc just a short walk from the zig zags leading down to the beach. Southbourne High Street itself had plenty to offer with many shops ranging from restaurants, bars, Sainsbury convenience store, boots, bakers, post office etc. A lovely and safe suburb of Bournemouth and a local train station not too far away too. Nearby gardens like Fisherman’s walk and lovely pubs like the Spyglass and Kettle and Riverside pub overlooking the River Stour all added to the pleasure of our vacation. Hengisbury head the otherside of Southbourne is a absolutely must for the scenic walks and fresh sea air!
