The Portland Hotel, hotel in Folkestone

Opposite the Leas Cliff Hall, beside the sea and Folkestone town center, The Portland Hotel has a popular bar and restaurant and free Wi-Fi access.

As I have a mobility scooter we were relocated to a ground floor room. This, for obvious reasons, was not the executive room for which I had paid. Also, we did not get the continental breakfast for which I had paid, at £6 per person per night. So, I reckon we are due a partial refund. I have to say, however, that John was superb and a credit to the hotel. He helped me get my scooter in and out of the hotel, as all entrances had steps.

Lovely central location with something for everyone.

Lovely central location with something for everyone. Lovely walks as a whole family. A good range of shops, restaurants, pubs and bars. Canterbury was 20-30 minute drive away which was lovely as we went on a boat tour and saw the stunning cathedral. We were able to get to mist places on foot and there was a lot to do. Parks, beach, harbor arm, cinema, shops and lots of lovely sights. We had a lovely Greek dinner on the harbor arm, however, it was quite expensive. We had a chicken gyros, a lamb one, a chicken gyros bowl, chips and some hummus with pitta and it was £60.

It wasn't my first choice (I was catching the channel ferry and I would have preferred to have been in Dover) but what a pleasant surprise. I was travelling with my dog and I was amazed at how dog friendly the town was. I particularly liked the coastal walks and I enjoyed reading the informational plaques around the town. One thing I found so touching was Remembrance Road adorned with the handmade poppies. I was struck by how much effort the council has devoted to highlighting Folkestone's attractions and making them accessible to visitors. I enjoyed just wandering around the town with my dog and appreciating it's history and sights. Folkestone turned out to be a serendipitous experience and I'm glad that I didn't stay in Dover.

So all was great until the last night.... We booked the family room to get a quiet good night sleep as we were travelling at 6am the following morning....We were woken at 3am by the room next door where 3 single gentlemen were staying...loud music, shouting and walking up and down the corridor speaking loudly with no care to other guests...Reception arrived promptly and things did quieten down a little....Why put 3 single men next to a family room? Absolutely no reply from 3 sent emails to the hotel...very very poor!!!

Great location , family rooms are clean and spacious. Had to call the number on the door prior to check in where a friendly staff member came to meet us and explained about the parking and check in . Family room had all the amenities such as wifi , tea & coffee making facilities, bottled water and complimentary chocolates on the bed was a nice touch . It’s not a 5 star hotel but if you want a clean basic place whilst in the area I would recommend

Absolutely perfect stay in Folkestone. Everything was perfectly appointed and thought out. Every time I thought “I wonder if they have ______” it was in the room. Beds and bedding were so comfortable, bathrooms were spotless, fridge had milk, every single thing we needed or wanted was there. Location was excellent for walking to a concert on the coast. Host was so friendly and helpful. Could not have been more perfect!

Friendly down to earth staff. The hotel bar is a chilled place to enjoy a leisurely evening drink. Folkestone is only a ten minute bus ride away, with a bus stop right outside the hotel. Saves using the car, and allows a drink or two if dining out! Our room was quite adequate, with a super comfy superking bed. Although on a busy through route traffic was calm at night and did not disturb sleep. We will return!!

My room had a bay window, lots of light and plenty of space. The rooms in the hotel were open and inviting too. The owner is very organised and good at explaining the where and how of the hotel and what was nearby. It was a short walk into town and the main shops and supermarkets yet far enough away from it to be quiet and residential Nice food for breakfast - lots f information about ingredients and so on.

The stay here was perfect from beginning to end. The hotel staff made sure we had a lovely stay, with a towel made into a birthday cake for my partner and very kindly a birthday card too. The room service and housekeeping were very attentive and the breakfast was out of this world. Sea view room and lovely surroundings, Folkestone is underated! Thank you for making our stay extra special,

I booked a single basic room but hotel upgraded me to a premier room overlooking the harbour. Amazing view of sunrise over the white cliffs of Dover. The cabaret in the bar area was excellent very good George Micheal tribute singer and comedian! Would recommend asking for room with a view of Folkestone harbour.

Charming, relatively old family-run hotel right on the Folkestone seafront. The age of the building does show through in places, but not in a way that seems too shabby or run-down - just gives it a bit of character, in my opinion. Staff is super friendly too.

Perfectly located outside Folkestone in a very scenic part of Kent. We was greeted and seen off by the chap (cant remember his name) who I think owns the facility. Lovely rooms, very clean and warm. The bonus of brekkie in bed was the cherry on a big cake! T
