About Cebu City

Including tips for the best time to visit Cebu City

Nicknamed ‘Queen City of the South’, Cebu City graces the eastern seaboard of Cebu Island and serves as a major domestic shipping port of the Philippines. It reigns among a cluster of islands within the Central Visayas region as a magnet for commercial activities and tourism.

As the oldest city of the Philippines, Cebu City is backed by centuries-old landmarks. To delve deeper into the history of this city, visit the Heritage of Cebu Monument, an ensemble of sculptures depicting significant events from Cebu’s past. You can spend some quiet time in Santo Nino Basilica, the city’s holiest church, housing a statuette of the Christ Child. The Spanish-style stone kiosk of Magellan's Cross Pavilion is situated right next to the church. You can also make your way to Fort San Pedro, a remarkable military stronghold.

Along with being a teeming metropolis, Cebu City is also a vibrant cultural centre dotted with serene hideaways. You can enjoy shopping at Colon Street, the busiest road in downtown Cebu, or indulge in retail, dining and entertainment experiences at Ayala Center Cebu, a sprawling shopping mall. For sweeping views of the city away from the bustling streets, head to the Tops Lookout, a 600-metre-high viewpoint nestled in the mountains. To take in the cityscape from a different perspective, visit the multi-tiered and colourful Cebu Taoist Temple, standing tall at an elevation of 110 metres.

Cebu City itself not so great , very busy , so so many small shops selling all the same goods ... Cebu Taxi tour to mountains good for 4500 peso , you need to Travel to Lapu Lapu around one hour trip to find a decent beach but you will need to pay

24 April 2024

The hotel had one of their staff drive me around the city. The driver wasn't familiar with the sites we visited. The hotel collected the fee but never called a tour operator. I thought I was going to get a licensed and knowledgeable guide from a tour company., but that wasn't the case. The hotel lied and provided substandard service.

22 April 2024

It's easy to get around the city with public transport (buses, jeepneys, taxis). One thing that disappointed us was about the beaches in Mactan/Lapu-Lapu area. We saw online that there were nice blue water/white sand beaches and resorts but they have all been privatized! By hotels and resorts. You have to pay to use their beach fronts. The costs range from Php400-4,000! Some of these costs also include using the hotel's swimming pool or eating from their buffet. But still...we just wanted to spend one or two hours by the beach but didn't know we had to pay like this. We found two public beaches for free access (eg. Maribago) but they were dirty :(

Not good enough for them. Had to hand over more money. When asked about rooms service not available .! Asked if they had a bar. Not available.!! The main points of Cebu (historical attractions, malls,...

19 February 2024

The main points of Cebu (historical attractions, malls, temples etc) could all be seen in just one well-planned day. I would recommend taking 2 nights here, arriving in the afternoon and going out then utilising the one full day and leaving for your next place early in the morning (to beat traffic!)
