Lying in the green Western Ghats of India, Ooty is a resort town known for its natural beauty. This city in Tamil Nadu offers stretches of tea plantations, glimmering lakes and a wide number of activities for all those who visit.
Every Ooty itinerary has a mention of Ooty Lake – an artificial lake built for the purpose of fishing. Here, you can rent a boat and spend some time admiring views of the surrounding greenery. Emerald Lake, another beautiful location, boasts unparalleled views of tea plantations. Try to visit around sunset or sunrise to witness the setting or rising sun. You can briefly stop at Avalanche Lake, formed by a landslide and encircled by green hills. The tranquility and stunning views of this location make it an ideal picnic spot.
Owing to its idyllic location in the laps of the Nilgiris, Ooty abounds in natural resources. Deer Park, located a few kilometres from Ooty Lake, is a place for wildlife enthusiasts to spot a variety of deer species, like sambar and chital. With stretching fields of green and an array of flora, this park is one of the best-known wildlife sanctuaries in India. You can also make your way to Mukurthi National Park, a popular trekking site with various streams and rivers. You’ll be able to see flocks of birds and animals near the water from your position atop the watchtowers located inside the park.

Hindi speaking people should avoid Ooty.
29 April 2024
Hindi speaking people should avoid Ooty. Tamilians are highly uncooperative. They loot outsiders. Very arrogant towards non Tamilian Auto people loot u by charging 120 Rs for any small distance of 1/2 kilometer.

Visited Dates: 22nd-25th of April 2024 If you drive to Ooty, you better be an exceptional driver as most of the roads are either uphill OR downhill. The important spots that I visited with my family are 1) Botanical Garden 2) Rose Garden 3) Doddabetta Peak 4) Train Station/Journey (to Coonoor) 5) Tea Garden (best for photos) 6) Tea/Chocolate factory (worth the visit at least once) 7) Government Museum (History Museum in the first Stone house) 8) Emerald lake (although very less water but worth the visit for the landscape and the scenery). 9) Pine forest (visit this place only if you love the nature and to walk in between the pine trees for some photos, otherwise it is long drive) Getting around Ooty is easy if you have the GPS or at least know the routes very well otherwise you will never know where you will end up, especially the places where you can't take U-turn.
Ooty is crowded these days.
12 April 2024
Ooty is crowded these days. I would prefer to stay in connor next time. The traffic was horrible and it was not peaceful to just go sightseeing. But the weather was nice and cozy to stay inside the homestay.

If you wanna enjoy the nature with relaxing experience, then avoid going to Ooty during weekends / extended weekends as mostly working professionals from Bangalore & Mysore visit which makes the traffic a terrific thing in the city.

The best thing to experience is Ooty toy train and rose garden. Other things are overhyped. The pyara waterfall, the pine forest , shooting point etc are greatly overhyped. You can completly sip these and plan for coonoor or other nearby places like Wayanad.
A great destination for 2-3 days holidaying.
13 March 2024
A great destination for 2-3 days holidaying. We visited the sites likes Pykara falls and lake, Shooting Point, Botanical garden, Rose garden, Chocolate Factory, Tea/ Cofee Factory, Doddabetta Peak etc to name a few. However following wroth to be noted: 1) Pykara Falls does not have any falls actually 2) Botanical Garden is not worth. 3) Toy train can be excluded from the trip. 4) Chocolate factory and tea factory on Dodabetta road is worth seen and should not be missed.
