The property also provides free pick-up service from JR Takayama Station. The Japanese breakfast was absolutely delicious. Our host, Tai, is exceptionally gracious. He picked us up at the train station, shuttled us to town, and made reservations for two delicious dinners.

Reopened after renovation in 2022, Auberge Hidanomori is situated in quiet hills, a 10-minute shuttle ride from JR Takayama Station. The property offers free WiFi access in rooms and in public areas including the shared TV lounge and the terrace. This has been my favorite place to stay in all of Japan. I absolutely loved the decor and the meal service. There are two private baths that you can use on a first-come, first-served basis and they were great. The hotel is extremely minimalist which goes with the theme of "letting the time pass by slowly". The dinner and breakfast are incredible and for only 7000 yen extra I would definitely recommend it to anyone staying here. They also have an extensive wine library and for a few thousand more yen you can include wine pairing with your meal. This was one of the best meals I've had in Japan, and I've dined at over a dozen Michelin-Starred places in Tokyo. It's also a brief drive over to Hida no Sato (Folk Village), and you can get a shuttle to take you there.

Free Wi-Fi is provided throughout. A remarkable ryokan. The service, the attention to detail, the beauty of the place and the comfort of the room made our stay truly memorable.

JR Takayama Train Station is a 20-minute walk away and a free shuttle service is provided from the station. It was an amazing experience in Takayama ! It felt like home and the meals were delicious ! No Takayama experience would ever be as authentic and traditional as this. I initially thought that it is a small inn but I was surprised by how huge the inn is and also the family who owns Oyado Yamakyu were very warm and they made sure we were comfortable. Grateful for the late night pick-up at the station too and for keeping us safe. It was wonderful ! We also experienced a modern hotel in Takayama during this trip but Oyado Yamakyu is the experience I remember most !

Its a beautiful authentic place right at the central street of Magome-juku. Rooms are comfortable, clean and staff is really friendly. Dinner and breakfast were exceptional

Okuhida Toy Museum is a 1-minute walk away while Shinhotaka Ropeway can be reached with a 10-minute drive. JR Matsumoto Station is a 90-minute drive away. This guesthouse was beautiful and in a fantastic location. The private onsen were superb! The breakfast was by far the best meal I ate in Japan. All this, at an extremely reasonable price. I would definitely recommend.
