The property also provides free pick-up service from JR Takayama Station. Tai and family are the best hosts in Takayama and possibly the whole of Japan! You will not find another place like SOY with a comparable level of hospitality. Other than the complimentary shuttle to and from the train station, Tai and his family went out of their way to make sure our stay was comfortable and we were well-taken care of. SOY was a quaint and charming guesthouse, with great views (especially in winter), and a ton of space for a large family - which we were. The entire place was very well furnished, and had amenities that were great for hanging out - like a movie room. Food at SOY is prepared with a lot of love and attention to detail, super tasty, and amazing. Tai would even help us call tour operators and restaurants to help us make reservations because some places only take reservations over phone and speak only Japanese.

Reopened after renovation in 2022, Auberge Hidanomori is situated in quiet hills, a 10-minute shuttle ride from JR Takayama Station. The property offers free WiFi access in rooms and in public areas including the shared TV lounge and the terrace. We absolutely loved the location, the facilities, our room, the bath, and the breakfast was the best we had in our entire trip in Japan.

JR Takayama Train Station is a 20-minute walk away and a free shuttle service is provided from the station. I had an awesome night. Reasonable price and awesome service aside, the Japanese food I had there was far better compared to many Japanese restaurants! Also, they seem to (not 100% sure but looks like it) have an Takayama map of their own production with different languages, that is really helpful!

The shower rooms are shared, but everyone gets their own reserved time to wash so you can enjoy them in peace. - Great dinner and breakfast - Two small separate rooms for sleeping and sitting/hanging out. - The futon was comfy and the bedding was thick and nicely warm.

I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who enjoy authentic Japanese style meals and hot spring. The family run this hotel with a lot of thoughtful care and hospitality. The traditional Japanese meals were authentic and served with fresh Hilda beef and local vegetables. As a hot spring lover, the hot spring were beyond expectation. There are private room and shared room for hot spring, and they all have great view of quiet forest. (It was snowy the day I came, and the experience of bathing hot spring in a snowy forest was superb.) The owners are very friendly and kind!

Free WiFi is provided throughout the property. Traditional Japanese house, beautifully presented, close to the Edo district, just lovely.

Shitanda offers traditional Japanese accommodations, a hot public bath and free-use bicycles, an 18-minute ride from Takayama Station with its complimentary shuttle. It features a garden, karaoke facilities and free parking. Free WiFi is available in the rooms. Fabulous place!! We spent only one night but it was great experience. Very delicious Japanese breakfast. Great onsen for whole day and night. And great owner who was incredible polite. It’s a little far from center but owner offers free transport from Takayama. Thank you for great Japanese experience !
