Reopened after renovation in 2022, Auberge Hidanomori is situated in quiet hills, a 10-minute shuttle ride from JR Takayama Station. The property offers free WiFi access in rooms and in public areas including the shared TV lounge and the terrace. Auberge Hidanomori is one of the gems of Takayama. It is a fantastic property, with beautiful rooms and 2 private onsens. Very friendly/helpful staff, and the meals were some of the best we had in Japan. Fantastic pairings!

JR Takayama Train Station is a 20-minute walk away and a free shuttle service is provided from the station. This stay was the highlight of my trip! The room was lovely, and the hot springs were the perfect way to end your day. Most of all, the food is exceptional: the dinner might have been the best meal I’ve ever had! The staff is incredibly friendly and makes you feel right at home. They even gifted me with a Polaroid portrait at the end of my stay! I would definitely stay here again :)

The food is absolutely spectacular. Tasty, well displayed and very large portions. Having the private usage of the bath was also great, especially after hiking there from Tsumago. It is honestly like living in a Japanese fairytale or myth. Our family truly loved this place, and the entire experience was the highlight of the trip. Oh, we also got a room with a private toilet, I think the only one in the property, so that was a win! If you see this place as available, book it. Staff are kind, helpful, and super nice. And there was a beautiful welcome song at dinner.

This place exceeded my expectations. It's cozy, clean, and comfortable, the beds are some of the widest I've seen in dorm rooms, provide privacy with curtains stretching from one end to the other, the location is great and the rooms are very big with tatami seating areas to relax and stretch if you want to sit somewhere else other than your bed in the room. It's the perfect place for budget solo travelers. Will come back whenever in Takayama!
The room is quite small but has all the necessary features. The location is perfect, a short walk from the station and to the city centre. The onsen is also very nice.

Great location, 2 minute walk from train station, and only a 10-15 minute walk from the city center and attractions. The staff was super friendly, and the service was exceptional. The room was spacious and and had everything we needed for our short stay. The public onsen was small but really nice and relaxing, featuring a main indoor bath and a very small outdoor section.
Overall the facility is ok with this price. Low budget but with private traditional room. Location is not good but still within walk distance.
The breakfast was amazing, some of the best food we had on the trip. Tai and his parents were very nice and accommodating and went above and beyond. The location is a ways from the city centre, but they were willing to give us a ride to and from the city whenever we wanted. It was a great stay.

A budget hotel that offers nothing fancy but it was convenient, clean, warm, and comfortable. The location was superb right opposite the train station. There were minimart and restaurants around. A good place to stay if you visit Takayama central and don't want to burn your budget on accommodation.
