Tai who runs the place is the sweetest person on earth and his mom is also incredibly kind and adorable. They really made us feel at home and made our stay so special. The place is remote from the city center but Tai was amazingly available to drive us to and from the center. He also booked an amazing sushi restaurant for us. The living room of the house is surrounded by a beautiful garden and they have a nice cat. Our room was very spacious and comfy. We loved that we had our own bathroom, toilet outside of the room and that there was a washing machine. Tai only has 4 rooms so it felt really intimate. We strongly recommend staying there!

Conveniently located just a 3-minute walk from JR Takayama Train Station and registered as an important cultural asset, Ryokan Kaminaka offers traditional Japanese-style accommodation with hot public baths, multi-course Kaiseki dinners served in guests’ rooms, and sleeping arrangements on the tatami (woven-straw) floor. Free Wi-Fi is provided throughout. Our stay at Ryokan Kaminaka was an amazing experience! It is such a beautiful ryokan with a lot of history and a very homey atmosphere. The building is very old and traditional which makes it a rather unique experience. It is family owned and everyone is so welcoming and warm. Our room was spacious, the futon beds were comfortable, and we had our own bathroom. In the morning we were served a delicious traditional Japanese breakfast in the dining room with a wonderful view of the garden. The hosts were very friendly and made sure we had a great experience staying at their ryokan. We wholeheartedly recommend this place to anyone visiting Takayama.

JR Takayama Train Station is a 20-minute walk away and a free shuttle service is provided from the station. We absolutely love our stay at the ryokan Oyado Yamakyu. Everything was perfect, the ryokan is really cute with a retro vibes really on point with the overall ambiance in Takayama. The staff was also really kind and helpfull. The room was really big and confortable. The bathroom are shared but we had a with a private toilet and a sink in the room. The cherry on top was the dinner and breakfast, they where amazing with a beautiful variety of local food and a lot of it! One of our best meal during our one month trip in Japan.

I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who enjoy authentic Japanese style meals and hot spring. The family run this hotel with a lot of thoughtful care and hospitality. The traditional Japanese meals were authentic and served with fresh Hilda beef and local vegetables. As a hot spring lover, the hot spring were beyond expectation. There are private room and shared room for hot spring, and they all have great view of quiet forest. (It was snowy the day I came, and the experience of bathing hot spring in a snowy forest was superb.) The owners are very friendly and kind!
