For me it was the most convenient stay in Cantabria so far. It was absolutely quiet with the cows banging there bells in the distance. The room was well equipped, clean and cool because of the big walls and small window. I slept tue best ever. The breakfast was good and Maria supported as best she could. So, high score.
Helguera
Posada La Cotía is a restored house from 1860 located within the natural setting of Reocín Valley. Set in beautiful ornate gardens, this accommodation features stunning views of the countryside.
La Cotía features a rustic design with exposed beams and wooden windows. All areas are tastefully decorated with antique furniture and decorative paintings.
The Huelguera neighborhood is filled with a quiet mix of single-occupancy houses (may of them Very Old; I believe that this house was built in the early 1800's, and the actual property is several hundred years old) with a few "townhouses" (that's code for connected). Think of a green, lush, pastoral neighborhood with stone walls. Lots of stones. Like, you know, Ireland. There are a few cows wandering around. I said Hi, they answered. They were very pleasant.
This property is connected to a private house on the side, but the connection is not noticeable when inside; no noise! The gardens surrounding both houses are beautiful.
I didn't get to eat breakfast out on the patio (raining; Surprise! Cantabria). That said, the breakfasts were wonderful: home-made bread and biscocho, tomato and oil and/or jam, *excellent* tortilla, fresh fruit, ham, cheese (varied by day), fresh-squeezed orange juice, nice strong coffee.
In spite of the tranquility, the highway is about 5 minutes' drive away and many attractions (Altamira and Castillo caves, Laberinto De Villapresente, Santillana del Mar medieval town) are between 10-25 minutes' drive. Simply driving is wonderful because of the scenery. Make reservations for Castillo cave!
The town (Puente San Miguel) has plenty of places to hang out, eat, etc. For a late-night beer with no frills (it's close, but you still need to drive), try Café Bar Loal. They treated me well.
The bigger town/city, Torrelavega, another 5-10 minutes' drive away, has loads more stuff to do and see (as well as all the more mundane, yet necessary things: all-night pharmacy, supermarkets, etc). Go visit it for sure! Especially Mundo Canalla, if you want to have a stellar burger and dining experience, without having to pay $$$ and wait too long - yet feel like you ate gourmet).
Sofía and José, you are awesome. Thank you both!

Good location near the city centre and the sea. Easy to find the home, following the instructions given by the host. Good cleaning and he home had al he facilities including oil, soap, salt and coffee in the kitchen.
The location was good, near the beach but you need a car to get to the city center
Great location by the beach few restaurants opposite, we walked into the city centre about 40 minute walk but along the beach. Would definitely stay again
Very nice Albergue...We had a private room which was very comfortable. Great location along the Camino del Norte..Hosts worked very hard to accomodate guests. Restaurant on site served a very good dinner at a good price.. Breakfast was also included with our stay.
Location was central to city centre
Great little space for a solo traveller/couple on a budget. Very clean, hot shower, good location, less than 10 mins walk to bus & railway station. Coffee shops next door. Laundromat in same street. Beaches close enough to walk or hop on the bus.
Great location, close to the beach, bars and restaurant (but a bit far form the city center). Good prices, and pet friendly hotel (with dog treats waiting for us in the room). Free parking in the street right in front (if you can find a spot).
Loved the location away from the city centre, but only 10/15 minutes in a taxi from the airport. Right beside the beach. Huge double bed, very comfy. Great high powered shower. City center is about 10 minutes in a taxi, city is very built up, so we enjoyed the hotels location away from the noise. Not many restaurants/cafes but more than enough for a short break. Be prepared to speak a little Spanish, as most of the restaurants do not have English menus. Food and drinks only 5 minutes walk. Supermarket 2 minutes walk away.
The view of the room was a big roof of other building. The room was low under 3 stars but the bed was clean and comfortable enought for one night. The location is pretty good, not far from the city centre.
Excellent location for walking about and local tapas bars, its a real cheap budget hotel and serves its purpose for a shower and sleeping. Charming old building and cannot complain for that price. Member of Staff there was great.
