Lovely self catering facilities. We enjoyed a pasta dish we prepared in the electric frying pan which worked out pretty well and was easy to clean. Enjoyed the location and we were able to let our ten year old walk to the four square on his own and Rakiura is the only place on earth that feels safe enough to do that.
It was a really nice hostel! Given the location on Stewart Island, we mainly just wanted to use the hostel for a place to sleep really. It was a pleasant enough stay, very quiet (given it's on an island) in terms of scenary. Though a bit noisy when people walk around as the rooms are surrounded by a decking / boardwalk so you can hear every footstep.
Kitchen was sizeable and well kitted out. Bathrooms were spacious.
No problems though truth be told. It was a really nice stay, thank you so much!
Kitchen was a friendly busy place. Well equipped . Lounge area had games ,cards, and books AND a chest of clothes people no longer needed - very handy coz in a cold spell there were spare jerseys to wear.
My husband and I loved this hostel and stay for five nights. It was a great base for exploring Stewart Island. The kitchen and lounge facilities were excellent, the bathrooms were clean and the bedroom was very comfy. The location was a short walk from the ferry terminal and close to other walks around the island.
Butterfield Beach is a quiet place to stay, but handy to everything. The house was freshly painted and homely, with plenty of space and an excellent view over the beach. The kitchen was well equipped for self catering, we had everything we needed.
